Well that's the trouble. We did. We voted out the Tories, only to get a government that now does the same or worse. It's not hard to see why people feel like giving up on politics.

Had the government said "as a mark of respect, we'd like you to cancel football matches, concerts etc AND protests today", then fair enough. But to single out the protest they've long wanted to stop anyway as the one thing we should not do looks like disgraceful exploitation of a horrific attack.

I'll be on Any Questions on Radio 4 tomorrow. I don't yet know who the other panellists are, but given the way things are shaking out, I'm bound to disagree with them.
