Fellows are the heart of AIGHD. Once a year, our Fellows gather in person for an annual highlight: the Fellows Fair and Dinner.
At the most recent fair, topics ranged from stigma in armed conflict to climate shocks. We look forward to the ideas and future projects that this evening sparked!

How can the world find its way back to a sustainable and just future for global health?
Four thinkers will reflect on this question at the annual ๐ฑ๐๐๐ ๐ณ๐๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐ & ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ in Amsterdam on 12 November.
Join us at this special event! bit.ly/JLCFsymposium2025.
โQuantification of tuberculosis exposure in a high-burdened settingโ www.nature.com/articles/s41...
AIGHDโs Sabine Hermans & Frank Cobelens โ also part of โช@amsterdamumc.bsky.socialโฌโฌ, Amsterdam Institute for Immunology & Infectious Diseases, Amsterdam Public Health โ helped design the research + edited the paper together with Robin Wood (University of Cape Town/Desmond Tutu Health Foundation)
The result has just been published in the journal Scientific Reports.
โThis work suggests that strategies to reduce exposure alone are an inefficient approach to preventing TB cases,โ explained the studyโs lead author, Benjamin Patterson.
People living in communities highly burdened by #tuberculosis (TB) may be exposed to the deadly disease up to 5 times per year without necessarily becoming infected.
Building on their work to better understand TB transmission, AIGHD Fellows modelled data from sensitive breath sampling studies.
The 2025 Joep Lange Chair & Fellows Symposium โ on 12 November in Amsterdam โ will feature world-leading experts in public health reflecting on the systems, societies, and solutions required to help the world find its way back to a sustainable and just future for global health.

#EpiGenEthiopia Lead Investigator Dr Tobias Rinke de Wit: โSetting up networks like this is difficult because there are different countries, angles, priorities... Still, it is the basis for everything: We have to approach the future in Africa on a continental level and not on a country level.โ
The #EpiGenEthiopia project that AIGHD spearheads featured in a symposium at the 12th #EDCTPForum in Kigali, Rwanda, this week.
EpiGen aims to generate real-time genomic data about pathogens to inform public health action and is one of 10 such projects on the continent forming the GenEpi Network.
Patane Shilabye (#SouthAfrica) & Clark Joshua Brianwong (#Uganda) won the Joep Lange & Charles Boucher Awards for the highest-scoring abstracts by early-career African scientists at #INTEREST2025!
The abstracts they presented were selected from more than 1,700 submissions. Congratulations! ๐

A new study has confirmed the safety and efficacy of single low-dose primaquine in reducing malaria transmission in young children & could support global #malaria elimination efforts and limit the spread of drug resistant #malaria.

Why arenโt we talking about climate change as a health crisis? ๐
An analysis of 2.4M social media posts shows only 3.1% mention health impacts, despite growing evidence of #ClimateChange affecting #PublicHealth. Health-focused messaging can boost support for #ClimateAction.
