Finally started a very dear project - the Twin Lance but with a little twist 😁

Originally I had intended to mirror the paintjob entirely but the suits already were, hehe

The colours are challenging to get right but I love them dearly and will try my best!!

Side-by-side comparison of the close-up image of the current WIP state of the Abaddon project. On the left is my miniature interpretation of the art on the right, the original and iconic warhammer artwork "eye of terror" by Karl Kopinski.

The paintjob so far is mostly held in black primer, red, orange and yellow fire and heat-osl from below and, newly painted, is the pink, purple and blue backdrop showing the Eye of Terror galaxy with a big tear opening up from the center of the spiral galaxy and toward the bottom left on the backdrop.

The right side image of the digital reference also has a quick silhouette sketch of the protagonist, which helped me map out where and how to position the freehanded galaxy.

The newly painted galaxy background is done in pink, purple and blue.

After all the great practice in freehanding galaxy stuff I got from the Apollon chariot project, I was well prepared for the Eye of Terror backdrop!

Usually backdrops only set the scene but on this piece it's very important for the piece in many ways!

Side-by-side comparison of the close-up image of the current WIP state of the Abaddon project. On the left is my miniature interpretation of the art on the right, the original and iconic warhammer artwork "eye of terror" by Karl Kopinski.

Newly painted is an even wider ranging spread of red bottom ligthing on the upper half, and the implied wall of flames around the knee-height of abaddon, painted in by the highest-value yellows at those heights.

WIP image of a Legio Custodes miniature with unpainted head with ponytail and angry expression, an unpainted base and a mostly basecoated and sketched armor with black, grey, white and purple hues so far.

The right leg is most refined among all these details and done to appear as a polished black metal.

My first Custodes girlie from the new box!

Really enjoying these sculpts and the black #nmm

Yeah, painting 3D "canvases" with so much detail is such a different experience. I always love when 2D artists give it a try, just for fun and curiosity :)

Thank you very much!

Three-part image of the current WIP state of the Abaddon project.

At the top is one 2:1 ratio wide photo centering on the knee-height level of abaddons body, where the center of the implied flames is placed, which causes the warm osl on the rest of the piece.

The bottom half of this collage image is vertically split in the middle and shows different angles of the kneepad, which is the detail that is most refined in the area shown above.

After last nights painting stream, which was surprisingly productive on my part, we have set up the center of the flame wall, which is the center and source of all the warm OSL on this piece.

I'm starting to actually feel good about this :)

By now I have more paint on the piece, newly added is a larger area in red, orange and yellow tones, which are a first WIP state of the fire effect mapped out and essentially mid-planning.

Yeah I suppose I can still make it into something like that! Ill keep these parts for sure.

For now I do just wanna paint one clean single mini from the boy, and honestly, the Sentinel is growing on me πŸ˜‡ Happy with the base I made for her!

1 week ago 1 0 0 0

While assembling her I spilled my plastic cement over the desk and fully covered the front of the shield and a few minor parts.

Even after fishing them out and letting it airdry, all detail is just lost. no crisp edge left 😒

After the tragic loss of the Shield-Captains shield, we are pivoting to a Custodes Sentinel.

I've decided to do some chill basing for her today and start painting right after, if there's gonna be time left for it.

Yeah, these are about the decisions I arrived at as well, though for different reasonings, I believe.

I got my own vision for it though, and trust my future choices as well :) - So it might end up like you described, or it might not. We'll see!
