To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.

Let's #pretend
the carpet is the ocean
& we're sailing with our bed
into a better tomorrow.
Let's pretend
the sky is blue &
that's not lightning,
it's sunbeams.
Let's pretend
you're still with me
& my heart wasn't broken
into 17 pieces.

Minimalist-style painting by Hiroki Kawanabe. A person, with their back turned, sits in the center of a light-colored sandy beach, gazing out at a deep blue sea. A trail of white reflections stretches from the horizon to the sand on the water, creating a strong luminous contrast. The person is wearing a dark green jacket and gray trousers.

Photograph of what must be two strands of blossoming woodland chervil, captured in a forest, against the setting sun in the background. Only the plant is in focus, while the green, natural background is entirely blurry.

Oct 2022 β a photo from a visit to Toto Gorge, a flank collapse of nearby Karioi (an extinct stratovolcano). Standing at the railing of the weathered wooden viewing platform, one is presented with a stratum of views and edges: of the platform; of the gorge; of a small breaking wave on the Tasman Sea's shoreline; of the wide-open horizon and (l)edge of the world. The gorge and its rugged, terraced cliffs are verdantly blanketed with native shrub and brush. The far below surf is but a scribbled line of white crayon along a sliver of a black sand beach. The Tasman - a tranquil, cerulean mystery β is almost like a mirror. Above it all, the sunβs rays are gentle, with just a gleam of a kiss on the horizon; the sky holds no cloud. It seems many breaths are being held here this dayβ¦along the edge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karioi - Te Toto Gorge. βFifteen lava flows make up the 150 m (490 ft) cliffs of the Gorge showing many large augite crystals (phenocrysts) up to 15 mm (0.59 in).β https://www.geotrips.org.nz/trip.html?id=768

Photo by BetΓΌl Batmaz. A single contrail cuts a clean diagonal line across a twilight sky, glowing faintly gold against the deepening blue. Soft clouds, warmed by the last light of dusk, drift in shades of rose and amber below. The vast stillness of the sky holds this one fleeting trace of passage β a line drawn and already dissolving.
We vanish. The trail we leave does not.
Bright blue sky with scattered white cummulous cloud. A dark purple iris opened in close up, centre, foreground, with several buds surrounding it which will open soon. Beyond the irises, a large patch of back garden, branches of a weeping birch in the top left. An apple tree, pear tree, and other shrubbery appear along the right hand side. Beyond the garden is a hedge line, beyond that green fields. A very sunny day.
