Miasma is a medical detective story set in the London of Charles Dickens’s time. It’s the story of a lone doctor who thinks he can stop the most frightening and fatal disease of his day: Cholera. But to do so he will have to defeat popular superstition, the medical profession, the political and media elites… and the disease itself. This is a story about bad science and good science... about groupthink and dissent... about insiders and outsiders... and about one man taking on the system. Told with five actors playing multiple parts in a fast-paced, comic format, Miasma illuminates key challenges still at the heart of science and public health today. In this age of conspiracy theories, misinformation and algorithmic outrage, how do we know when to “trust the science” - and when to trust the scientists? Cast » Jack Gavin » Niamh McGrath » Robbie O’Connor » Karl Quinn » Peter Rothwell Costume Design » Sorcha Ní Fhloinn Lighting Design » Viko Nikci Sound Design » Carl Kennedy
We are delighted to host Colin Murphy's #theatricalplay "Miasma" this Friday for two performances in our historic lecture theatre!

I have a migraine, but I'm so done with seeing these everywhere every few months that I had to send an email — and I know others have too. @irisvanrooij.bsky.social @dingemansemark.bsky.social
Please, they must stop doing this. I'm so tired of this nonsense.

Perhaps it's not surprising that one of the few things I miss from my religious upbringing (which was for Greek standards mostly secular) was attending the #epitafios: a deeply mournful and gothic affair

How do the AI apologists think people learned to read and write non-native languages before slop machines existed? We looked at books, and we talked to native speakers. Those resources are still there, and are more reliable than a chatbot.
Well Melania's speech has certainly put a start to all the speculation

That should also include recognising the fact that English being the default language of academia is just the result of (cultural or actual) colonialism, and that non-English literature is every bit as legitimate. (Working in a country where many PhD theses are written in French was an eye-opener).
In case anyone is wondering, I'm a non-native English speaker (native language: Greek) who writes, presents & publishes almost exclusively in English. My English is by no means perfect, but I'd rather be corrected and learn from my mistakes, than rely on a soulless genocide-enabling crutch like Ai.
love it!
That, and on a practical note, writing and editing your own work is one of the best ways to master a language.
That's not to say don't use any aids, but aim for the ones you can learn from.
