A chart of two axes: libertarian to authoritarian, and liberal to conservative. In each quadrant is a portrait of a character from 1970s British sitcom The Good Life. Barbara Good (libertarian, liberal), Tom Good (authoritarian, liberal), Jerry Leadbetter (libertarian, conservative) and Margo Leadbetter (authoritarian, conservative).
The replies to your thread have just reminded me of this 2021 Good Life musing from Phil Gyford @philgyfordtest.bsky.social

Psychological safety isn’t built with “hacks.” Eye contact may help some people feel safe — for others, it feels like surveillance, dominance, or a demand to mask. One-size-fits-all advice risks harm.

Not everyone stays silent for the same reason. Are they Fear‑Averse, Competence‑Anxious, or Cynical‑Conformists? Diagnose your team members' archetypes and tailor your psychological‑safety strategy.

Claims of ‘too much psychological safety’ often ignore the cost: which voices are we suggesting should be quieter, and what might we be willing to miss as a result?
Carl Rogers argued creativity can’t be forced—it must be invited through psychological safety: unconditional worth, no judgement, and true empathy. #PsychSafety #Creativity

No matter how well-cited a theory is, if it contradicts what practitioners observe daily, it’s probably the theory that’s broken.

"It’s not the rupture that defines a relationship, but how we repair it."

Yeah, I think the FTSU network is an interesting aspect of NHS cultures. In an ideal world, it would be entirely unnecessary, so its sheer existence is somewhat of an indicator of deeper dysfunction. Not that it’s a bad thing though, and the FTSU guardians do great, and very important work.
Yes, and this is part of the problem with the name - we're so used to "justice" needing a victim and a perpetrator who faces the music...!
Oh good question! I believe it's essentially the same thing :) Both "just" and "justice" share the latin root ius/jus, and both mean "right", "equity", "lawful" and "fair".
"Just" vs "unjust" is are outcomes of "justice"? :)
Why is #JustCulture still a struggle? Without psychological safety, reporting systems gather dust. We need psychological safety - deep shifts in values, behaviors, and structure, not just mechanics.

A team is only as psychologically safe as the least safe person on the team, and those with least safety tend to be those who are already minoritised, disadvantaged, or under-represented.

How safe people feel when sharing feedback or co-creating solutions is pivotal to the success of any participatory process. We generally only engage to the degree that we feel safe to.
