How can we quantify diversity in scientific data, and why is it crucial for advancing research?

Check out the amazing line up of speakers for the inaugural Critical Perspectives in Psychology Preconference! If you are going to #SPSP2025 you don’t want to miss this!!
Hot off the press! 📣📣In this tutorial we illustrate available multiple imputation approaches for handling longitudinal data including when they are clustered within higher level clusters. A reproducible example with R and Stata code provided! #OpenAccess

This looks *extremely* neat. Kristoffer consistently provides exceptionally useful tools and visualizations 🤩
Here you can find a bunch of recs for inclusive practices that include: writing a constraints on generality statement, considerations for who you cite, guides for reporting and measuring sample demographics, etc...

Behind the first door of the 100% CI advent calendar is a new blog post! In which I hand out unsolicited writing advice -- with a focus on writing about technical topics in an accessible manner, but most of it is fairly general: www.the100.ci/2024/12/01/w...
If you are an early career researcher studying diversity-related topics, have a look at the CASBS Summer Institute on Diversity fellowship! Applications are due on Dec 12.
Work on your future research lines, receive mentorship, and meet likeminded scholars. 🙏🏽

There are many layers here, but I want to comment on one aspect of these findings for now--the editorial board representation. Some will see this and immediately think: we need to get more POC on our boards! I understand that impulse, but encourage you to think a few steps down the game tree 1/n.
New work by my lab members Sebastian Castro-Alvarez and Di Jody Zhou, in collaboration with @eikofried.bsky.social @bringmannlaura.bsky.social and others.
You play the drums? 🤩
Trying to find the Latinx psych folks here… LMK if you want to be added.

And these are some open-ended questions that we've asked as well:
1) If the time in which you participated in the study was not typical for you, what happened during this time that made it unusual?
2) What are the most notable events, both good and bad, that happened in your life during this time?
We've asked close-ended questions with response categories: (1) Strongly agree to (5) Strongly disagree
1) In general, my participation in the study…
a) interfered with my daily life
b) made me more aware of my feelings
2) The time in which I participated in the study was typical for me.
Ooh, thanks for sharing!
Writing reviews of colleagues' work is one way to contribute and learn. But doing it well - giving critical *and* kind feedback - often requires intentionality, skills, & knowledge of the hidden curriculum of peer review!
This @reviewerzero.bsky.social workshop is here to help! Join us on Dec 1 🎉
New paper on transparency and validity in coding open-ended data at AMPPS. Key takeaway: we need a more detail on how coding happens. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Haha totally. These projects can take so long! Here’s one more that is a nice reminder that talking w/ ppl is good when trying to create a scale: psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...
Yup! I’ve done a lot of scale construction stuff and if I can offer a recommendation— I wish I had done cognitive interviewing to better understand how people were generating their responses. I think it’s underused but so important and helpful!
One on general scale construction stuff that I recommend a lot. I especially love the discussion on generating items that are at the edges of what you think the construct is about as it helps ensure that you’re working with a lot of breadth in ur items psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...
Maybe if you do have the resources collecting up to 1000 ppl would be good? IMO an item pool of 30 is small! Let me dig up some papers!
Ok cool so 30 is gonna go into a factor analysis? I think there are so many rules of thumb, like sample size depends on communalities w/ a smaller sample being alright with higher communalities. Some folks say a size of 200, 500, 1000. Other ppl recommend up to 20 cases per variable…
How long is the list?
This is still a work-in-progress starter pack, but at least it’s now starting to feel ready to share.
Use this if you’re looking to (re)connect with some AAPI voices.

Seems like my old post is getting some traction with new followers. With just 10 days left, here's a reminder that I will be reviewing PhD applications in social-personality psych for my lab at UIC. Details & research priorities are on my lab website. Please let you students/ lab managers know!
The built-in pals were the first "AI thing" I found genuinely useful for my work.
They tackle problems common enough to care about automation but too tedious to program against. Getting an "about right" solution, combined with a bit of manual polishing was definitely an improvement. #RStats
I've created a Black In Psychology Starter Pack to highlight the excellence of Black psychologists, #psychology trainees, psych organizations, & prospective students. Let me know, if you'd like to be added! 👨🏾🏫👩🏾🏫🧠
Help me spread the word by reposting 🙏🏽
