I got tickets to London 2012. It wasn't cheap but it was one of the greatest experiences of my life-the spirit of the events, the atmosphere in the stadium, even the crowd on the underground, was just magical. Its the happiest I have seen London! If you can afford it, do it, even just one event.🙂

Just an amazing artist-the first gay photography book I bought was his monograph from 1991, still the best collection of his work I think. Well done for including the still life-as you say, often people don't see past his graphic work. Although some of his flowers manage to take on an erotic air!😁

Something a little different for #mosaicmonday -the Haus des Lehrers. A Soviet era building from 1964 just off Alexanderplatz in Berlin,has one of the largest Soviet mosaics in the world. Following the buildings purpose, it shows various educational scenes.

Renovation of a municipal building,and former Ottoman hospital,in Zeytinburnu on the Marmara coast,revealed a series of 4thC mosaics.A sarcophagus was found under the mosaics containing 2 skeletons, origin unknown! They continue to investigate this unusual find.

Pertevniyal Valide Sultan was the last Ottoman imperial mosque, completed in 1871. The style was deemed "eclectic" pulling from the Neo-gothic, Moorish, Mughal and Rococo schools - bright and colourful, with great detailing.

Yes, even though Craxton was famous in his time, he kinda faded from memory, a bit like the "Two Roberts" who where his contemporaries. John is better know in the Aegean countries like Turkey and Greece with regular exhibitions.

Great selection-Cadmas and Tsarouchis are favorites! I would also nominate John Craxton-he was thrown out of Greece in 1967 as they thought he was a foreign spy. He joked that the reality was, he just had a thing for sailors,and greek conscript saliors in particular! Very much evident in his work 😁
I just found a turkish translation of the excellent Ian Collins biography of my favorite artist, John Craxton, in an Istanbul bookshop - great excuse to repost!
