Kurt Vonnegut says:
Many people need desperately to receive this message: ‘I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.’

So, welcome to the fifth Weird Pride Day, March the 4th 2025.

#WeirdPride is about celebrating the things that people have found bizarre about you, because we all need to accept who we are.

Hearing about other people's pride in who they are is a powerful thing.

Exciting news: this year's Weird Pride Day (4th March) is 47 days before the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring equinox - and you all know what that means, right?

Yes, folks... this year, #WeirdPride Day is *also* PANCAKE DAY!

Next Weird Pride Pancake Day isn't until 2087.

#BIPOC voices are often missing from autistic spaces, so here is a BIPOC starter pack! 😊

The image of autism as “only white boys” leads to underdiagnosis, discrimination & isolation for many

Our autistic community is much more diverse than that! ❤️

Strengths-based does not mean superpower, or deny disability, it is about leaning in to see a fellow human, asking what is going well, exploring identity, championing authenticity, agency, advocacy. Strengths, e.g. #monotropic thinking, can also disable. Knowing a person in their environment matters

it was great to have you there Annabel, I know the NDA CEN that hosted the event are keen to be open to other professionals (hence i could invite you). I would deffo be interested in creating more spaces to focus on these topics xx

Yesterday I went to the neurodiversity-affirming clinical excellence network for SLTs round table discussion on ND, professionalism and intersectional identities. The speakers were incredible and so generous.

So much to digest still, but at the forefront of my mind is feeling full of joy from sharing space with a incredible group of people, thank you Kate Boot 🏳️‍🌈, May Lam, Vanessa Kurankye, Wing Yee Lam, Fatimah Bint-Hanif, and Simon Bedeau

It was such a pleasure to experience and demonstrate a small example of creating a safER space to talk and share about these topics and great to hear how helpful some many people found it.

We touched on the realities of who's comfort and safety is often prioritised in discussions about inclusion, accessibility and intersectionality

We touched on the weaponization of 'professionalism' and how we are trained to erase our positionality as clinicians.

We had the opportunity to reflect on our experiences as #SaLT with intersecting identities, and the relationship between our identities and our practice for both the people we support and ourselves

Such an honour to join a wonderful panel on Friday!
There is no #neuro-affirming, #trauma-informed, #accessible practice without reflecting on intersectionality.
The sociopolitical realities of the people we work with is central to the ethics & effectiveness of clinical practice.
