I'm struck by how the media, especially print media, sticks to enforced neutral language even as it is obviously being gamed by fascists.
We need a wave of 1890s muckracker journalists.

I mean… if they really wanted to, bluesky could let him join, wait until he said something terrible, and ban him for it. It’s not like it would be a long wait.
Great name mills. Incredible choice and pun
This week on the blog: the big iconic opening battle scene from Gladiator (2000)!
This sequence has become the image of the Roman army for many, which is unfortunate because - for as fun as it is - it doesn't work much at all like a Roman army.

Good.
It’s the satisfaction of watching and thinking “hah. Get ‘em.”
I wish this were an April fools joke, but no. It is, unfortunately, facts. My car insurance company has failed to pay my mechanic and the car rental company from my recent claim and I’m left with a total of $3400 on my credit card that I should not be paying. I’m gonna cry.
"to democratize art is not every person having a cute drawing made in seconds, to democratize art is every person having time and health to learn and make art if they chose to, and mainly to have the means to think and relate introspectively with art."
Just some WIP
we really need to stop saying “arrested” by ICE. the word you’re looking for is “kidnapped”.
I went into this more on tumblr but the short version is it’s hard to adapt a story that has two sets of rising action, climax, and closure without it feeling weird.
The thing about calling The Lord of the Rings a trilogy is that it isn’t. It’s six books. Sure, it was published as a trilogy, but each book contains two volumes of the larger story, and each one is a complete narrative arc. This is why it sometimes wobbles when adapted to other contexts.
It would be really nice to be able to vote for a party because I actually like them rather than just “well I guess this one is the least repugnant” while knowing perfectly well that they probably won’t win enough votes to even be useful
The NDP has such a chance this time round and I fear they’re just gonna blow it

being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:
Four part cartoon in which a knight with a sword attempts to rescue a princess from a dragon, a dragon which the princess does not want to be rescued from because the dragon is "cool as hell".

I do not want to live in a trade war. Like I prefer the trade war to a literal war. But I am tired and groceries are already too expensive. And we all know that even if the tariffs are removed, things won’t get cheaper. Loblaws will just get 25% more profit.
