WaterNSW criticised for ‘appalling’ decision after hundreds of turtles left to die in wetlands River ecologist says ‘classic bureaucratic tangle’ led to government agency stopping flows to Gwydir wetlands region in March

A leading scientist has criticised an “appalling” New South Wales government agency decision to stop water flowing to wetlands in the state’s north-west, saying it was “absolutely crazy” that researchers had to scramble to save animals buried in drying mud.

You're hearing it more and more... it's time to tax gas exports!

More than 50 community organisations, including ACOSS and Oxfam, are calling for a 25% export tax.

Australians are fed up with the gas industry not paying its fair share.

‘Incomprehensible’: birds flee and hundreds of turtles left to die after government cuts water to NSW wetlands Frogs and sheep in the Gwydir wetlands near Moree have also been bogged after WaterNSW stopped environmental flows, researchers say

An “incomprehensible” disaster is unfolding at wetlands in New South Wales after the state water agency abruptly stopped environmental flows in the state’s north-west, leading to the deaths of turtles, waterbirds, frogs and sheep.

Angus Taylor,
My mother is rapidly approaching the end of her life, in aged care. This awful time is being made easier by the tender, thoughtful care by people from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. How dare you talk about ‘Australian Values’ & reboot One Nation/Trump bs about migrants.

Denmark didn’t “transition” its grid—it replaced it.

~15% → 92% renewable electricity in 25 years.

Wind did the heavy lifting. Solar is scaling. Interconnection balanced. Flexibility solved variability.

Wind built it. Solar is scaling. Fossil lost it.

This IS system replacement. ⚡#Bettrification

I'm deep down the rabbit hole on FROGFISH, 60 species of anglerfish in family Antennariidae.

They are deeply, utterly WEIRD & MARVELOUS.

Most walk on modified fins.
Others use jet propulsion.
Some are capable of air-breathing.
Some are "hairy", others blend perfectly in sargassum.

Please remember when you swim in the ocean:

200 meters below you, there is a layer of fish that stretches all around the world. It is so dense, that when it was discovered during WWII it scared the navy so bad they bombed it.

This is the ocean's thin inner shell of fish [🧵]

Campus Chaos Four Corners is the home of Australian investigative journalism.

I cried watching this 4Corners ep last night. The greed of people who care about nothing but lining their pockets & buying their next porsche, even if it comes at the costs of 100s of people's jobs, was so tough to see. How do so many people just have no decency?! www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

Australia claims it is ‘on track’ to save nature. We disagree The federal government needs to drop the spin and get on with the hard work of addressing biodiversity loss.

TLDR? The @albomp.bsky.social government is being loose with the truth about the environment and conservation, again.

Estimating transport and detectability of Chironex fleckeri environmental DNA in an open coastal bay Abstract. Environmental DNA (eDNA) has emerged as a powerful tool for species detection and monitoring; however, understanding its dispersion and transport

🪼🧬 New paper!

How far does environmental DNA travel in coastal bays?

We used biophysical modelling + particle tracking to estimate the transport & detectability of Chironex fleckeri (Australian box jellyfish) eDNA.
