My new book ONE WORD, SIX LETTERS is out today!! Grab it wherever you get your books. Better yet, grab an extra copy and give it to a young person in your life and then talk about it with them.

I keep spinning that perfect summation through my mind, b/c wow, if there’s a single superpower that I wish I could somehow magically confer upon every author and illustrator I know, it’s the publishing version of that. 2/2

A thing that will never not astonish me is being on an airplane, quietly watching a stranger watching the movie of a book that was once merely a stack of paper on my desk, in my hands. Publishing, you wild, surreal, perpetually-confounding beast of a business, you still have your moments!

As authors generally, and as authors for children specifically, our whole job is to remove ourselves from the page and make space for the reader. Let the reader build the world. Let the reader have the space to define the story - and their own story - for themselves. It's a great responsibilty.
