What if every red light ticket the NYPD gave to cyclists since late 2019 was bogus?
This is the implication of a decision issued by a judge in Manhattan last week, who ruled that the state law cops use to ticket cyclists for running red lights is "inapplicable."

Reading between the lines of recent @nyc-dot.bsky.social community board presentations reveals a more confident agency under Mayor Mamdani than under Adams, with DOT actively pushing back against overblown and downright false narratives that bike lanes worsen traffic or block first responders.
In a way, DOT under Mamdani and Flynn are taking more of a public health approach to these presentations than we've seen before. "Here's what that data shows..." DOT has historically put that in there, but it was usually shared with figures on things like parking loss.

Fourth Ave in Bay Ridge is the same width as W 72 St.
When can we have nice things?
In January, the New York City Greenways Coalition called on Mamdani to fast-track at least one signature project and disentangle the city’s siloed greenway management, but the mayor has yet to follow any of its recommendations.
I hope @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is taking this comparison personally!

Paris Mayor pandering to an extremely vocal 20% of guys on Bluesky with this
That’s right.
Cars are a huge liability for neighborhoods. One car breaks down and chaos is unleashed for miles. Insanity.
Cars parked on the Leif Ericson greenway near Fourth Ave.
Heads up: illegal parking and the absence of a temporary bike lane during construction have made the Leif Ericson greenway impassable between Third & Fourth avenues.
Riders heading east toward Fourth Ave are forced into oncoming traffic on a road that is an on ramp for the Belt Parkway.
EXCLUSIVE: Mayor Mamdani ends the NYPD's criminal crackdown on cycling, a controversial anti-bike policy that the Adams administration admitted was based on community chatter, not actual data. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/18/m...

Carrying a bike up those stairs won’t be fun
The MTA should add dedicated bus lanes and bike and bike and pedestrian paths on the Verrazzano Bridge to help deal with the oil shortage.
Can you imagine paying $63,744 in one year so you can drive like an absolute piece of shit?

Referencing the hearing and the date it took place is usually enough
If you can’t sign up to speak, you have 72 hours from the end of the hearing to send a written statement to testimony@council.nyc.gov.
Debate over the NYC street plan is largely a numbers game, which distracts from the low quality of cycling. NYC 🚲 lanes, once built, are subject to chronic blockage by 🚘 & 🚛
That's a much higher deterrent to winning new riders than whether DOT does 18 vs 25 mi of new lanes in a given year #bikenyc
A section of the official NYC bike map
Maybe @nyc-dot.bsky.social will finally address this Bensonhurst-sized hole in the bike lane network 🤞
When will the Fourth Ave bike lane reach Cannonball Park?
How soon will the Cropsey and Neptune avenues gap in the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway be closed?
Asking for lesser result filled District 47
Riding a bike is an inherently safe activity. What makes it dangerous is poor infrastructure and reckless drivers.
