Down the street they parade,
feathers fanned like frowning flags.
Town criers, heralding the sun to rise, behind the cloudy skies. Their calls, echoed in the misty morning air.
They hurry back to the woods. I turn over in my bed, thankful for the rain.

Every morning the turkeys arrive
Gurgled gobbles; my 5 am wake up.
Across the lawn they strut
grumpy inspectors of the line.
They ruffle my solitude and scratch at my peace, like being awakened for school.
I pull the covers over my head. I swear I see my breath in the air.
Birdsong greetings
A new day begun
I lift a silent prayer
A simple start
