This is way way waaaay more than a government shutdown. This is a purposeful gutting. The grant office went from a staff of 40 to 1. Take a look at AcademyHealth updates.
Was that an AI review? I’ve been seeing rather odd reviewer comments lately.
I’m not sure that page is updated - I believe it is from September 2025. And I don’t think any of those updated items from Sept 2025 were ever funded at any amount.
My Saturday morning reading
This means that the United States does not have an agency funding or supporting healthcare at the point of care.
If you work in healthcare, you should be outraged, share this, contact you Senator and Representative, and ask your org or institutional leadership to make a formal statement.
So from what I understand, *ALL* #AHRQ NOFOS are now terminated. None active, none forecasted. The administration effectively “quiet” shutdown the entire Agency…

Call your US Senator and US Representative today and tell them #AHRQ and American Healthcare deserve better.

Research to advance primary care - CANCELLED
Research to test / share actual practices that work - CANCELLED
train the next gen researchers - CANCELLED
#AHRQ has not funded a single new grant to improve US healthcare in nearly a year, & awarded grants have not received awarded research dollars.
Many of the leading healthcare safety and quality researchers in the world are based in the US... which is why it pains me to see so many cancelled funding opportunities from the HHS Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ( #AHRQ).

My heart is broken, and I’m outraged by the murder of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse and VA worker, at the hands of federal agents. I love our country; I served our country, and I know we are better than this. It’s time for Congress to step up and hold our leaders accountable.
After decades of service to our country, a career that started as a Navy pilot and finished as a three star admiral, I was removed from my position without cause.
I still have more to give, more to fight for, more work to do — and I am not done serving.

Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
The new directive asks USDA workers in the agency’s research arm to use Google to check the backgrounds of all foreign nationals collaborating with its scientists.
The names of flagged scientists are being sent to national security experts at the agency, according to records reviewed by ProPublica.

SCGOP finding out the hard way what happens when you let anti-science anti-intellectual conspiracy theorists determine your public health policy.
The Senate passing the science minibus is a good thing.
Academia is such a strange institution. Do good for society, they say, when you leave to work for a President of the United States. Followed by come back or resign, so we can open your line.
Really interesting survey about science.
More than eight-in-ten Americans (84%), including Dem/Rep, say government investments in scientific research aimed at advancing knowledge are worthwhile, while only 15% say they are not worth the investments.
As I said in the Senate last year, "Dismantling #AHRQ will have nationwide consequences. It weakens evidence-based care. It hinders health care from addressing emerging threats and dismantles grant programs that support current research and the training of future researchers." #Healthcare
What are we watching in healthcare in 2026? The destruction of our U.S. research infrastructure...
Name corrected; the numbers are still horrific.
I don’t think people understand that #AHRQ #HHS agency that funds hands on research to make healthcare cheaper and safer - like enhancing the process to sterilize surgical instruments or fighting hospital acquired infections - is getting gutted.

Hey @nytimes.com you misspelled Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

Spent much of today finding grant opportunities that are a perfect match for my research but no longer exist (ie #AHRQ grants), then tried to make fresh pasta with powdered sugar. Hashtag winning.
A excellent analysis of a horrific act.
