It is so confusing. I think most of us assumed that this purchase was so the Balas administration building could be sold. Balas is run down, a lot of admins work remotely now and they have downsized administration too. No need for it. But it has been years now and they still haven't sold it. Why?

As the district is declining by about 100 students each year, going back and seeing if all the new schools will really be needed isn't a bad idea. But man, it is going to be ugly if they determine a school needs to close. Like closing a park times a zillion in outrage.
I had to sit through Shawn Fain's long tedious speech at the otherwise fantastic Harris rally at the Detroit Metro Airport in 2024 only for the United Auto Workers not to endorse her anyway. The "friends" are actually not such great friends. Breaking with them is OK if they are being idiots.
Sending out petition gathering forms to random households must be so expensive. The return on a mailing is very low and each one costs a lot. Just get supporters to do petition gathering drives, unless you don’t have real supporters, just lots of money from a handful of super rich donors.
This was a chilling email to receive tonight, the government's ethnic cleansing campaign continues and now (at least for the moment) it's happening in my oldest son's school district
Happy Festivus to you too.
Happy Festivus to all who celebrate.
All these communities also send considerably more money to Michigan schools than they get back. That's not the case for Rep. Steve Carra's district. His constituents get more money for their local public schools than they pay in.
For a second, I read Festivus phallus, but that works too. No reason why the traditional aluminum pole can't be phallus shaped.
What is wrong with Rep. Steve Carra? His constituents get more back in state education funding than it puts in. Is this just because he's a childless, unmarried millennial who doesn't want to pay taxes? www.fox2detroit.com/news/michiga...
Yeah, corner lots are a little more work, but you know that when you buy your home, right? It’s not like you wake up one winter morning and go “oh my god, it snows in Michigan!”
I get embarrassed when I look out my window and see my neighbor in his 70s shoveling his walk before I’ve shoveled mine.
Yeah, this is neglectful stupidity. If you shovel right away, it is an easy job that takes less than 15 minutes to clear the public sidewalk. If you wait and let it ice from being walked on, you’ve made your task a half hour struggle.
Wow! The county health department is not playing around with the latest reminder on the importance of hand washing … and I gotta say, I kinda like this very direct messaging. It’s definitely unforgettable.
I was just going to ask if roundabouts would help and I see you are already thinking the same. Is it any better when Miller is open or about the same?
Got it. That is frustrating. And yes, ticket the landlords and realtors who should be budgeting for prompt snow removal. Grace for families with littles and the elderly or disabled.
And I mean, not you personally cause you have little kids, but the other neighbors on the street. I always shovel the walk for a neighbor if I know they are juggling little kids and have been slow to shovel one day … and they get me back the next snowy day.
Honestly, this doesn’t reflect well on Burnes Park. My neighborhood, Abbot school, seems to have fewer issues. On my street, we know our neighbors, and if someone is out of town, you just shovel and salt their walk for them knowing they will get you back next time the situation is reversed.
Thank you! I hate the one on my street. It is just a useless message at this point. I’m so glad the city is doing this, and I hope the posts can be recycled for something better.
Late at night, my teen asked Google if #a2schools was a snow day today and the Google AI made up an answer by guessing before AAPS had declared it a snow day. That’s concerning.

Running to look up the age of the property owner online. Yup, just as I suspected.
Had a bad dream where 2 unrelated gun murders happened the same day in #annarbor. Both shooters evaded police. In the first murder, the victim was a dog. In the second, it was a woman. And people online were more upset about the dog dying than the woman. Please tell me it was just a bad dream.
All I want for Christmas is for Miller to be open. The whole way in both directions. #a2council
For #annarbor friends looking for a X-mas tree pickup.
What in the racist nonsense is this? No one is erasing European cities and institutions, which by the way are made up of a variety of European tribes that have been trying to erase each other for centuries without much success. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/05/w...
Hey, I’m so sorry, I was away for a bit and missed your message. No group dedicated to AI and in fact, the district is all in for adding AI to education. It is like how we pushed “day of code” on kids a decade ago but predicted the future all wrong. I can track down the presentation to the board.
Skyline high school finals are Monday and Tuesday. Ask me how happy the students studying at @aadl.org Westgate branch are about today’s family drum circle. 😂
They should have held the line and demanded private jet flights be cancelled before commercial flights.
So I guess republicans learned that if you need Democrat senators to cave, just cancel 5% of the commercial flights they, their staff and their donors rely on. 😢
