I met him when #a2schoolboard was canceling after school care programs and he was at the meeting to talk about something else, and like to think that craziness got him even more involved in local politics.
I know #a2council folks like to (many times deservedly) give Burns Park a hard time for bougie entitlement, but Burns Park Elementary is falling apart, with uneven heating and cooling, playground equipment that sits broken for months on end, flooding, asbestos, etc. #a2schoolboard needs to fix it!
Also tell me why we have enough money for two admin buildings but my kids art room smells like burning crayons whenever the heat is on (literally all winter)? #a2schools #a2schoolboard #a2council

Forever reminding any person in Ann Arbor to stop voting for Susan Baskett, a horrible #a2schoolboard member who has been on this opaque bond committee, a NIMBY who encourages AAPS acquisition of land to prevent development (and the not granting easements for Lockwood if #a2council remembers!)
Between the no contract for teachers and now this “Oops, we don’t have enough $ for the new school we promised when you voted for the bond” news, I’m feeling like maybe it’s time to start paying more attention to #a2schoolboard over #a2council for me.

Watching the #a2schoolboard meeting for the first time in a while. Much discussion from AAEA and AAEA-P about low pay, stagnant wages. District ability to pay them more seems questionable.
This is a sucky standstill. Support and sign investinmikids.org to get more $ for public schools.
Late at night, my teen asked Google if #a2schools was a snow day today and the Google AI made up an answer by guessing before AAPS had declared it a snow day. That’s concerning.

If you are trying to decide if it is worth coming out and voting on Tuesday as only the tech education milage that helps #a2schools is in the ballot, here is who is voting against it. #a2council #a2schoolboard

So @jasonmorganmi.bsky.social (on Instagram) says the schools *should* have the money to fund free breakfast and lunch, if I heard him correctly. No update from AAPS, but that’s enough for me to not worry about figuring out their awful meal payment system today. #a2schools #a2council #a2schoolboard
Today, free school lunch ends in #a2schools for anyone not qualified due to low income. Students can run up a debt if their families haven’t put money in their lunch accounts. But will that debt be erased if the state gov passes a budget with school lunch for all? I’m guessing no.

Sorry for the delay. Labor Day weekend fun. 🙂
This is inaccurate. The most recent presentation at the June 11 #a2schoolboard meeting had the state and federal contribution being roughly equal. I don't know why such a big change in the amended budget.

#a2schoolboard adjourns at 7:55 pm after a meeting of about 50 minutes in length. Nothing particularly new or unusual, but they did note that they are continuing looking at a cell-phone ban in the district and will be evaluating data from the Skyline High School pilot test of a ban last year.
Log on for the Taylor Swift announcement. Stay for #a2schoolboard. 😆
😮OMG! Taylor Swift has set a countdown for #a2schoolboard meeting tonight. Watch on CTN or Zoom at 7 pm ET.
What else could it mean? 😆

Meeting will be preceded by Bond Committee meeting at 5 pm. #a2schoolboard will discuss repairs & construction at 7 schools: Allen, Abbot, Scarlett, Open, Eberwhite, Mitchell & Slauson. They'll then vote on these at the general meeting. Details ➡️ a2schools.community.highbond.com/Portal/Meeti...
Today's distribution of MacBooks to #a2schools high schoolers was a little rough with kids at one school waiting in line over 2 hours. Parents asked how much it all cost. Answer: over $6 1/4 million. All $ from local bond.

"Like a lot of private and faith-based schools, its enrollment increased during the rise of COVID-19, as parents sought alternatives to the isolation of prolonged virtual learning in larger public school districts."

#a2schools is a fairly decentralized organization and uses contractors heavily, so not surprising that individual facilities staff are unaware of the ban. But they should have responding promptly with a simple, “thank you for making us aware, we are reminding our contractor & staff.”

Distressing to see #annarbor public schools out of compliance with our gas leaf blower ban. I've witnessed myself gas blowers being used at two different elementary schools this summer. I've reached out to our superintendent & asked the city administrator do to the same. 🦗 #a2council #a2schoolboard
Let’s go #annarbor. Vote for a new downtown @aadl.org library. People over parking lots!

The timing of my family being featured in this article on the amazing @aadl.org Summer Game has given me the opportunity to tell all my local friends who text me in excitement to VOTE YES ON PROPS A and B tomorrow! #a2council, #a2schools, #a2schoolboard
Read a lot of articles and summaries but finally sitting down and watching the last #a2council Planning Commission meeting. Very much appreciate they are being more thoughtful than #a2schoolboard ever was or even currently is about public comment procedure.
I got 8 seconds one time!
@washtenawdems.bsky.social please save the date.
First day of @a2schools-mirror.bsky.social 2026 will be
8/31/2026, so let's not schedule the nomination meeting for #a2schoolboard candidates right next to or on this date. Let parents/teachers/students participate. www.a2schools.org/about-aaps/c...
If these accusations are true, then the #a2schoolboard decision makes much more sense. And, I gotta say, if true, then I’m VERY concerned that one board member voted against terminating the teacher. (Also why is the school board voting on specific personnel matters?)
It is worth watching the video at 1 hr 50 min where Ms. Hamstra's lawyer David Nacht speaks to #a2schoolboard before they vote to fire her. Natch specialized in employment law and has successfully sued #a2schools before. Only Trustee Mohammad voted against firing. ctnvideo.a2gov.org/CablecastPub...
Here's the story about the firing of Community High School English Teacher Emma Hamstra at last night's #a2schoolboard meeting. Hamstras had the students read poems by @fannychoir with writes on mature themes around sexism and racism. www.mlive.com/news/ann-arb...
The #a2schoolboard continues to be a mess. They voted to fire a teacher for teaching poems. The only poem named so far is Fanny Choi’s “To the Man Who Shouted ‘I Like Pork Fried Rice’ at Me on the Street.” www.mlive.com/news/ann-arb...
