In DCâs Ward 1 council primary race, two candidates lead the field of five â but most voters are undecided, according to a new GGWash poll.

"itâs clear to me how exclusionary zoning preserves segregation and exacerbates displacement. The rent hikes that my family experienced in 2010 might not have been so drastic if single-family zoning in the Districtâs most affluent neighborhoods hadnât long prevented more homes" - JLG
Janeese Lewis George, GGWash's pick for DC mayor, outlines her plan to build more housing in the District.
Farewell eulogy for the idealistic #DCStreetcar.
You taught us that if we want strong transit, we must care enough to actually make transit strong.

Thank you @maustermuhle.bsky.social @51st.news for digging into the release of the long-suppressed road pricing report â and why Mayor Bowserâs justification doesnât âreally pass the smell test.â 51st.news/washington-d...
$550M in 1 year and:

-School buses getting kids to class on time more often

Iâm incredibly proud that @ggwash.org has led the fight to get this taxpayer-funded report released to the public, as required by law. This is just the beginning of much more work to come, but this is justice.
Traffic volumes could decrease up to 11 percent, representing almost 65,000 fewer weekday car trips; transit use would jump by almost 25 percent in the most optimistic scenario; and people who still decided to drive would save up to 24 hours of time lost in traffic.

These humble monks, through the act of walking, day in and day out, have taught millions of people how to show up for our world when it needs us more than ever. What a joy to witness and follow in some of their final footsteps on this journey and to see how many others sought to do the same.
The snow is so thoroughly frozen you can now go sledding without a sled. âŚAnd without any friction to slow you down.
From Mayor Bowser's newsletter tonight: "Where we still have problem areas near bus stops, the DC National Guard is also going to help clear pathways for pedestrians to get to and from the buses."
Can confirm
My trip to the bank yesterday morning turned into an inadvertent tour of bus "berms." If we don't have a plan in place for clearing bus stops, bus riders in our region may face severe limits on their ability to get around for not just days but *weeks* to come.

I admit I didnât expect the shelves to be this empty 48 hours out.
Weâre trying to raise $12,000 by December 31 and, as of about 5 minutes ago, weâre $1,203 shy of the goal. Individual gifts provide critical support esp for the GGWash blog and political work. If youâre so moved, please make a gift to help us get there: secure.everyaction.com/0Euw5k-A8kan... đ đ
The year-end GGWash fundraising campaign is a *big* team effort. But I lead on the last handful of emails that go out during our winter break. And that means roping in some pinch-hitting proofreaders: my parents. Grateful for Momâs ruthless interrogation of whether any given comma is truly needed. đ
Did we unexpectedly have to carve out a few minutes in todayâs @ggwash.org staff meeting so we could all pull out our phones and check our Metro Rewinds? Yes, yes we did.
Crosstown @wmata.com bus routes ftw! They provide such critical connectivity. The H4 was my top route last year, and its newest incarnation the C61 kept me going this year.
Sidebar: Who is responsible for this yearâs truly unhinged graphics? And thank you to whoever signed off on them. đ
This gives me real hope that we are in the midst of a generational shift with several more decades ahead of us during which this generation will be working to fix a problem that was decades in the making.
Looking across not just elected offices but also philanthropy, journalism, think tanks, pro-housing nonprofits all over the country â disproportionately, I see millennials in decision-making roles steering energy and resources toward housing.
The reason our housing shortage is now seen as a crisis is not just bc of data â the data looked bad for years before this became a national dialogue. Itâs also bc millennials, entering middle age feeling the effects of societyâs failures, are now in positions of power & shaping that dialogue.
