This painting, titled "L'escalier" (The Staircase), was created by French painter Marc Chalmé, known for his mastery of shadow and light, often compared to Vermeer. His work captures "still light" in landscapes, still lifes, and scenes like this.

these are immensely self absorbed men who pine for nazi germany and apartheid south africa — stagnant, backwards regimes btw — because they imagine themselves the masters of the universe.

In 1547 during the Wars of the 'Rough Wooing' the English invasion forces built a V shaped cannon platform at Eyemouth which was later extended. They also built a Fort at Haddington in 1548. Tantallon Castle also added a Ravelin for cannon defense it may have been inspired by these Forts.
a gang of six tiny penguins on a beach leaning forward like theyre ready for a rumble
3 tiny slightly mad-eyed penguin chicks in a burrow
today i learned there is an official smallest penguin, and they're called fairy penguins, and they're so cuuuuuuute
This beautifully-detailed 17C painting by Abraham Mignon is called Still Life with Fruit, Fish and a Nest, but for me this is a severe injustice to the frog, who is a highlight (NGA, Washington, 1675)

Visited Iona for the first time today. Such a gorgeous, peaceful place and it felt a long way from the violence and irrationality happening in the world.
Skylarks singing over the machair, oystercatchers calling over the sea.

Two dogs sitting on the floor staring intensely at the camera. In front is a black, grey and white Husky, behind is a Dalmatian. Behind them is a desk with synths and speakers and headphones.
That reminds me of when by dogs formed a synth pop duo.

Midnight Hugh MacDiarmid Glasgow is null, Its suburbs shadows And the Clyde a cloud. Dundee is dust And Aberdeen a shell. But Edinburgh is a mad god’s dream, Fitful and dark, Unseizable in Leith And wildered by the Forth, But irresistibly at last Cleaving to sombre heights Of passionate imagining Till stonily, From soaring battlements, Earth eyes Eternity.
But Edinburgh is a mad god’s dream,
Fitful and dark,
Unseizable in Leith
And wildered by the Forth…

I have topped up my hand embroidered bird brooches. Six new species. I won't be making any more until maybe November.
