I took this photo on the beautiful island of #Iona three years ago today.

One of the most special places…💚

Happy #Easter to those who celebrate & a wonderful day also to those who don’t.

A black and white view of the Cloisters within Iona Abbey (a restored and reconstructed Benedictine abbey) on the Isle of Iona, Inner Hebrides, Scotland.
The Cloisters are a historic and spiritually significant part of the abbey complex, with the current covered walkways rebuilt in the early 20th century and featuring new, modern carvings added later that reflect nature and Celtic spirituality. These covered walkways, which once surrounded a central courtyard where monks spent time in contemplation, were designed to provide a safe, meditative space, with the symbolic carvings intended to inspire a deeper connection to existence and the natural world.
The present Iona Abbey dates from the arrival of the Benedictine monks in around 1200, though it was extensively rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries and restored virtually wholesale in the last century.
It was built on the site where St. Columba established his monastery hundreds of years earlier. He fled from Ireland in 563 and established a monastery which was responsible for the conversion to Christianity of more or less all of pagan Scotland as well as much of northern England.
Iona has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years.

The image shows the ruin of a church going across the centre of the frame. It is built of mixed grey and pinkish stones and there is a series of arches in this side of the structure. In the foreground are low stone walls and vegetation. The sky is blue.

The ruins of Iona Nunnery. This Augustinian nunnery was founded in about 1200 with Bethoc, a daughter of Somerled, serving as its first prioress. It is now a beautifully tranquil oasis on the sublime island of Iona. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

Book jacket with a green background. The author's name is in black. The title is in white letters An Illustration shows a lively collage-like representation of fire. Inside each tongue of this "flame" are fragments of three different elements; part of a medieval painting of the praying Virgin Mary, dressed in blue, an abstract red and black spiraling design, and two photo images of the Scottish island of Iona. Outside the flames, two bees are shown flying - one beneath and one above the central image.

Ruler in snow up to the 9 inch mark.

A tiny part of me wishes that there were more ice agents in Minneapolis so they could see how truly insanely resilient we are. Smelled like spring two days ago...9 inches of snow today and still coming.
