Do any fiction writers with an academic background struggle to keep formality out of their writing?
Because I do.

Sending my query letter to reddit for critique has been super helpful, and some of the harsh replies have been wonderfully eye opening. But some people write like they mean every word as an insult.

Will would be a great travel blogger and Stephan would be a biologist. They'd work on nature documentaries together 😍🌿

I have been taking comp titles far too literally and severely limited myself, to the point I've used books outside my genre just to match certain things. Suffice to say I'm reworking my query package 😂

Will and Stephan are pretty heavily based on some of my favourite animated versions of Odette and Odile (direct or inspired), since the two characters are their respective mothers 🥰

All my writing has queer characters/ themes that are central to the narrative. My debut explores my own struggles accepting my queerness growing up with homophobic peers, and the (internalised)prejudice I faced ✍️
I also write to see myself in fiction in a way I never did growing up

gen ai has no place in the arts and if you steal from your fellows and don't care about the environment you are part of the problem, pass it on

And I'm just curious what other writers think about this form response?
I am aware this hit me harder for personal reasons, but it feels strange to me for a specific writing aspect to be mentioned in a form response?

It just happened to trigger to an existing anxiety. But having a look on query tracker, I saw this was the agents form response.

Got a query response this morning that spiralled me into anxiety about my writing (I got over it). It seemed personalised at first because it specifically mentioned being unable to connect to my writing, which is a big worry for me because I do struggle with straightforward, literal thinking

I have to do a detailed outline before I even think of writing. Then when I start I have to do a dot point breakdown of what should happen in a chapter before writing it.

Looking back on an amazing email I got from a #RevPit editor to inspire me to keep editing! It was so sweet and encouraging and is beating back my imposter syndrome! 🥰

Took a break from editing and sketched my boys hanging out in the forest, totally being destined enemies and not at all getting alone 🤫

Still working on last edits before getting it to beta readers again!

If you are a marginalized author writing books about characters from marginalized groups. I need you to know that it may look hopeless right now, but your books are needed now more than ever.
