INTERPOL's 6th Plenary Meeting of the Global Congress on Chemical Security & Emerging Threats will be in Panama City from 21-24 Sept 2026.
The event brings together governments, industry, academia, & international orgs to strengthen chem security through collaboration & action.
To help the #GPWMD stay effective, the evaluation issued 17 recommendations focused on policy, participation, visibility, and operations.

The evaluation also identified challenges, including uneven engagement, limited continuity, no current driving WMD threat to unite members, and an image tied too closely to the West.
Key findings:
✔️ The GP plays a decisive role in reducing global #CBRN risks
✔️ It remains the best placed mechanism for coordinated #WMD threat reduction
✔️ Strengths include its #G7 link, strong coordination, and long-term project delivery
The evaluation explored how the #GPWMD works in practice. It looked at information sharing, priority setting, coordination, project delivery and partner engagement. It also reviewed past programming to assess overall effectiveness and impact.
Since 2002, the Global Partnership has helped reduce some of the world’s most critical and urgent CBRN threats. A new independent evaluation by @chathamhouse.org takes a close look at the role of the #GPWMD in today’s evolving security landscape.

WMD Threats are evolving & so are #GPWMD responses. WMD Relevant Technologies such as AI, drones, synthetic biology, & gene editing have the potential both to accelerate & exacerbate #WMD threats – but also offer threat reduction & non-proliferation solutions.
On February 14th, five GP members - the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany, and The Netherlands - issued a press release stating that Russian journalist and opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in a Russian prison in 2024, was poisoned with the toxin epibatidine.
The progress made this week has set clear paths for action under the French GP Presidency, reinforcing the #GPWMD as a leading international WMD threat reduction mechanism.
#GPWG participants spent the week:
✅ Assessing current #WMD threats, with attention to developments in Ukraine & Syria
✅ Strengthening work on new & existing GP initiatives, including areas linked to WMD-relevant tech
✅ Matchmaking implementing partners with donors
📍 This week, #GPWMD members and partners gathered in Paris for the first Global Partnership Working Group (#GPWG) meeting of 2026 under France’s #G7 presidency.
It was a great few days at the @gpwmd.bsky.social working group meetings this week under the French presidency. GP members continue to face #CBRN disinformation which impacts their important work on disarmament and nonproliferation.
