Begging folks with open ended academic jobs not to forget there’s a whole underclass of permanently casualised academics who’ve been facing redundancy as standard for years. 12+ in my case.

I get it’s awful facing redundancy ofc! Just…this isn’t unprecedented for us. It’s the norm.

I've had friends who used the enterprise ones before, which might work for what you're after, as they have a few options aimed at a range of uses rather than just holidaying. If you see what I mean.

My inbox is really terrible today. Really regret opening it. (Not that putting these things off would improve the situation, but I still regret it).

(Technically Pinocchio doesn't drown, given he can wander about in the sea in the earlier scenes - he's been smashed by that terrifying whale into the rocks here. With this dramatic/sorrowful result).

Think he's full of water at this point 😬.

a cartoon character is floating in a stream of water . Alt: (Disney's) Pinocchio face-down in the water. He is motionless, while the water ripples over the edge of a rock pool where he is lying.

As the crowdfunder for the first radical bookshop icon Newcastle for 40 years gets closer to the end I’m making the bold move of calling on all the academics I sort of vaguely know and also those I don’t to share the link for our crowdfunder: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/booksfromb...

Mythmatch on Steam Build a community to challenge the gods in this narrative-rich anti-capitalist merge game. Play as outcast Artemis and work alongside the mortals to repair their broken buildings and relationships. Me...

Finished Mythmatch this afternoon, and want to give it one last plug - everyone interested in historical gaming should look at it - it does so much to resist the traditional (limited) use of the past in games. Great fun, lovely story and characters. Play it! store.steampowered.com/app/1778050/...

I saw that the govt is looking at replacing them all with one official version, which would be great if so.

Feel like the constant social media adverts lately for KCL's career change service are a bit pointed given I currently (for now...) work as an academic at KCL.

Happy to volunteer to be a robot. It genuinely seems like a better way of getting a job than academia lately. Scam industries are more popular than real industries... What a terrible situation.

Query:

If you (or someone you watch/listen to) had a NON-TTRPG/Actual Play podcast, YouTube channel, etc.

AND

Played a tabletop roleplaying game on that feed/channel/etc

BEFORE 12/31/2018

could you let me know?

(I have some examples but trying to see if I missed anything)

I do often have or make use of VPNs and I am a bit obsessive, but I still tend not to bother for things like this, whereas if the series is just easily on sky or whatever I may stick it on while doing things! It makes a big difference to casual following.

You definitely should translate and publish though, this is great! A really nice summation of key issues. It's just unfortunate it came out after we finished writing the companion intro or my references would be full of it... Although I'm relieved to see I did quote many of these people anyway 😂

Games and Culture? I'd previously have said Rethinking History but I'm currently part of a special issue that went in*months* ago and doesn't seem to be progressing through review there at all, so assuming you ever want this to be out and readable, somewhere that moves quicker would be good.

I know I say this nearly every year, but with the amount of time precarious academics are *wasting* on job-hunting, interview prep, logistics around moving to new jobs, learning new institutional systems, etc etc., SO much actual work could be getting done. It's such a waste of time and expertise!

Since Claire Taylor became the first woman in the "Wisden 5" in 2009, 11 women have been included alongside 78 men; meaning 88% of winners are men and just 12% women.

I'm not sure exactly what equality looks like, but this isn't it.

For those of you in the UK it seems that 'Star Wars: Star Pilots' is currently 33% off (bringing it down to £16.85) on Amazon.

Which isn't a bad price for a pre-order!

Yes I agree, any of them would be a decent start. Of my two favourites, breath of the Wild is in some ways less idiosyncratic, but is also a lot bigger, so a less high-commitment start would definitely be Ocarina of time. But Breath of the Wild is maybe easier to get into among a wider audience.

Wind waker (I know lots of people love the travelling ones but honestly I was less keen...)

Have you played the new(er) Echoes one yet? I really love it.

If you like cricket at all there is a lot of it on YouTube this weekend. Very easy to just have on. Although it sounds like you could use a nap, really!

It's a terrible use of it. Ban her from the game immediately!

(All right I'm not having a very good cricket w/e after Durham yday & now this today - I'm sure a more neutral and less cross observer would admit it has been some really lovely batting from her, composed, often unflashy & just good!)
