Hello #MedievalSky and #Antiquity from the #PresentDead!
Here's my #cfp for a hybrid conference on "interacting with the Dead in Antiquity & the Middle Ages", to be held in Graz, Austria on 2-4 Sept., 2026
presentdead.uni-graz.at/en/news/blog...
Please do circulate it to interested parties :)
Screen shot of the session details for the paper alluded at, on Tuesday 7 July 2026, at 11:15-12:45. The paper is entitled " what's left unsaid when disturbing the dead", and the session is "Dead Reckoning: Judgement and the Dead in the Early Middle Ages"
Looking forward to #IMC2026, where I'll be talking on a theme at the heart of the #PresentDead project, by poking at early #medieval laws on grave re-opening
☠️✨
(And very happy to note that it is session 643 - the same year that the Edictus Rothari was issued!)
Thanks! We're definitely having a lot of fun on the #PresentDead project, as the scope of interactions with the dead is fantastic 💀
... and hopefully i shall go to Leeds 🪄
Had a lovely couple of conference days; presented yesterday on grave reopening in Gregory of Tours (with the #PresentDead), and then today on Lombardist legal scholia to Rothari's law on killing with poison in the #LiberPapiensis
Lovely questions at both, and wonderful people 😁

Had a great day at the Historical Games Studies workshop in Durham today, and,
🎲 my paper went well and was fun! I took a #PresentDead approach, looking at Grave Re-Opening and Gamification through the Lombard laws and TTRPGs.
Looking forward to tomorrow 😊
#PresentDead: we have a short project outline published and a homepage online.
Have a good and relaxing weekend (read) everyone :)

Lower leg of a white skinned woman on a purple background, in focus is a reasonably fresh tattoo of a line drawn, sketchy skull with a cute bow.
Ha, our former project administrator (Liz) for the #PresentDead said she'd get my sketch idea for a logo tattooed as a Memento (Mori?!). She is true to her word, and off doing her PhD now!

As I will be using this account more actively from now on, I will repost blog posts 1-6 of the #ERC #PresentDead project from last year ( reopenedgraves.eu )..to be continued, Happy New Year 2025!

I seem to have added the typo "depsoiled" [for "despoiled"] to my muscle-memory...
Which I then keep reading back as "deep-soiled" - but it almost seems appropriate considering I'm writing about the early medieval Salic laws on graverobbing, and it does make me giggle 😉
#PresentDead
I'm currently working half time on the mostly-archaeological ERC #PresentDead project (2023-2028) as the project's historian, exploring human interactions with the materials of the dead from the fifth to eighth centuries, particularly in regulatory and historiographical sources.
A set of seven polyhedral dice in a deep blue marbled effect. All of them show a 1 apart from the D10s which are on 0 and 00. I chose the colour to allude to necromancy, but they feel more like a moody ocean now which is also lovely!
And Graz has just joined the year's haul 😁🎲
These also celebrate my first day (physically) at the Karl Franzen's Universität, as the #PresentDead project has just relocated there.
Schedule of events I'm presenting in at the IMC. Tuesday 2nd July, #938 roundtable. Middle Ages in Modern Games, Maurice keyworth building, room 1.09, 19:00-20:00 Wednesday 3rd July, #1304, paper "Morth and the unfree in Lombard Law", Esther Simpson Building, room LG08, 17:30-18:00
On my way to Leeds for #IMC2024 😁🛩️
📜 roundtable on medievalism & gaming on Tues
📜presenting thoughts on _morth_ [secret killing, murder] and the unfree on Weds (as part of the #PresentDead project)
🎲🌿⚖️✨ and will hopefully run a playtest or two of my #LangobardRPG
(Tues ~20:30? Thurs, 15:00?)
The #PresentDead project has just upped its Bluesky presence, with our PI (@edeltraudaspoeck.bsky.social - hello!!) having just signed up on here :)
