Creative grievances against AI art aren’t just β€œAI Art Bad”.

It’s the social, personal, political, and aesthetic costs of substituting human creativity with algorithms trained on stolen work - while imposing these tools and content on us without consent.

Well. Bluesky had a good run. But if it's creators are jumping on the Generative AI train and lying through their teeth about the 'benefits' of it, I don't think I want to stay here, either. Maybe it's just time for social media to die?

By using AI and trying to cover it up as somehow being helpful to us, even if it isn't integrated into Bluesky directly, you are eroding community trust in you and all of your products. This is a severe disappointment.

Generative AI doesn't work for people, period. Instead, it consumes fresh water in massive quantities, uses massive amounts of electricity, and 'gobbles up' computing hardware, spiking the prices for everyday consumers. It does the opposite of helping people or working for the people.

Scouting America to alter policies including biological sex requirement to maintain military support, Hegseth says Some of the changes mirror Scoutig America's suggestions to the Department of Justice, including discontinuing its Citizenship in Society merit badge and introducing a Military Service merit badge.

As a former boy scout, I am deeply ashamed of the organization's decisions to capitulate to the fascist regime's demands to dismantle some of the core, fundamental values inherent to being a boy scout.

What an embarrassment.

Last year I wrote 4 short stories covering the 'origin' stories of 4 characters in a cyberpunk novel I'm writing, to refresh my understanding of these characters. I am so glad I wrote them and so glad I re-read them! 10/10 recommend for all writers to do!

I miss getting legit fan mail. Sometimes I wonder if spam filters are blocking them and letting AI through.

Gets disheartening when 'fan mail' is now nothing more than spam, no doubt using AI to 'read' your books so that they can start by analyzing what was 'good' about your book, and then saying, "For the low price of $$$ I'll get your book in front of thousands of viewers!" πŸ˜”

I've said it before and I'll say it again: a dragon has FOUR legs and a pair of wings. Creatures with two legs and a pair of wings that also act as front legs (similar to bats) are wyverns.

I freaking wish pop culture would get this right.

Congrats! I just finished the first draft of a new story myself! It's such a rush at the end of a long project :D

Thanks!

I mean, I'm pretty sure I have some light arthritis, but totally worth it ;)

Yesterday I FINALLY finished the first draft of my latest novel, the fifth main book in the Sword of Dragons saga! It also happens to be the longest novel I've ever written, clocking in at just over 180k words O_o

This includes artwork, music, writing, and voice work. This includes 3D models and computer code. So for the love of humanity, STOP USING GEN AI IN YOUR ARTISTIC ENDEAVORS.

4 months ago 1 0 0 0

To my knowledge, there isn't a single artistic Generative AI out there that has been trained through ethical means that didn't involve stealing intellectual property.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

Yes, this still means that if all you do is use Gen AI for conceptual artwork that is never used in the final product, you are still a party to stealing intellectual property.

I am so incredibly disappointed with Larian Studios. So I'm going to say it louder for those in the back: using generative AI for anything artistic IS THEFT. Even if you didn't steal the artwork yourself, the AI company did. You become complicit.

Aww yeah, with three more days to go, I've already hit 50k words today 😁 I'm doing good despite having numerous zero writing days this month!

Just checking in, how's everyone's #WHAM (Write Hard All Month) going?

I've had some setbacks, but caught up and am now well over the number I need to make 50k by the end of November.

Remember, you're doing great, even if you think you aren't! Keep going! πŸ’™

Had a slow start for WHAM (Write Hard All Month) on the first, but I've caught up and passed where I need to be to hit that 50k mark - 5570 so far!

Writers participating this year, where you at on your word count?

I'm so glad you're back! I started listening to the new story this morning on my way into work πŸ˜€

Alright #authors and #writers of Bluesky, the month of November is almost upon us! While NaNoWriMo is dead, and I distanced myself from them a long while ago, the spirit remains strong in #WHAM (Write Hard All Month). Who's going for 50k words in November?

I've wondered about finding an alternative, especially after recent frustrations. Only thing I need to figure out is, I don't just write my stories on Word, I make the full publication file for self-publishing print editions in word. Here's hoping alternatives have the same advanced features...

It varies, but I seem to average 1 per year. I managed to get out 3 in one year (only good thing that really came out of pandemic), but that was after a couple years without publishing.

Just got back from vacation earlier this week where I hardly touched social media. I realized just how good that was for my mental and emotional well-being.

So I've been staying away. And as much as I want to keep informed, I've stopped following anyone regularly commenting on politics.

While touring the Queen Mary today, I was wearing a shirt with my book cover for The Alpha Expedition on it, and a staff member stopped me and asked about it because he recognized the cover!! That's the first time a stranger "in the wild" has recognized one of my book shirts!! πŸ“šπŸ©΅
