Is there anyone who doesn't hate having to sit through endless commercials and 7 trailers for films that have no connection to the one you're seeing? This is an obvious fix that everyone needs to adopt.

This is an actual post. This is not funny. This is beyond desperate. This is a deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. Every member of his cabinet and Congress is complicit in not demanding his removal now.
The first moron that tries to lane split with that thing…

He's using the word "introspection", but he's really talking about the selfish benefits of being devoid of a conscience and considering the consequences of his actions. The shallow and greedy often look to justify their shitty behavior by turning it into a half-assed philosophy of some kind.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Do you know anyone who's ever sold or optioned a script through them?
Is this one of those ISA listings?

Congratulations!
Original, beautifully crafted films for the win!
So much doom and gloom in the film business tends to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, that it's always great to prove the naysayers wrong.
I'm sorry. As a technology writer, I'm supposed to be telling you that this bet will some day pay off, because one day we will have shoveled so many words into the word-guessing program that it wakes up and learns how to actually do the jobs it is failing spectacularly at today. This is a proposition akin to the idea that if we keep breeding horses to run faster and faster, one of them will give birth to a locomotive. Humans possess intelligence, and machines do not. The difference between a human and a word-guessing program isn't how many words the human knows. I'm sorry. I know that when we talk about "digital sovereignty," we're obliged to talk about how we can build more data-centres that we can fill up with money-losing chips from American silicon monopolists in the hopes of destroying as many jobs as possible while blowing through our clean energy goals and enshittifying as much of our potable water as possible.

Nice!
Are those glow in the dark strings on the acoustic bass? I've been thinking of getting a set.
Laura Jedeed on applying for a job with ICE: "I expected them to Google me, and they didn't ... they sent me a final job offer ... what's disturbing is we don't know who is wearing these masks with guns in our city. We don't know if they have domestic violence convictions."

Happy January 2nd!!!
Here's to another year of swimming up stream in an attempt to have a healthy, productive, fulfilling year, and a return to some semblance of a Democracy.
Why is it that tech and AI boosters keep saying "you can't put the genie back in the bottle" when making arguments about AI's supposed inevitable dominance? Did they not read the story? The genie does, indeed, go back in the bottle. Maybe we should start there.
It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.

“As prices for streaming subscriptions continue to soar and finding movies to watch, new and old, is becoming harder as the number of streaming services continues to grow, people are turning to the unexpected last stronghold of physical media: the public library.”

A Very Happy Birthday to Tom Waits!
Born on this day in 1949.
I don't know a single filmmaker, or a single person for that matter, that thinks it's an outdated concept.
I was an editor on this documentary about the incredible story behind the making of Coppola's Megalopolis. Even if you haven't seen the film (it's not currently available on streaming) this is some fascinating and nutty stuff about filmmaking and what can happen when dreams collide with reality.
TRYING TO HAVE IT ALL. Acrylic on Canvas 11"x14".
Usually I work from a detailed sketch and underpainting, but every once in awhile I just splatter paint on the canvas and wait for shapes and figures to reveal themselves. My version of surrealist automatism.

Rhea Seehorn is one of those actors that's so damned good, you want to scrap everything you're working on and only writes parts for them.
