It's hard to describe how valuable CASP is to the structural biology & structure prediction field. The ever increasing number of prediction algorithms means independent assessment of their accuracy is vital.
Please contribute interesting/tricky structural data if you can!

Recycling rates for PET are shockingly low. The more we show the value in collecting & treating "waste" PET, the more we encourage wholehearted participation.
If Incentives aren't strong enough to recycle PET for rPET at $2 per kg, what about if your product is $50K per kg? What else can we make?
For me this is a really important piece of work- beyond the fundamental understandings applicable to other researchers (use of transporters, identification of intermediate inhibition, product degradation route) it highlights the potential for PET plastic as a valuable precursor.
It feels cheesy when people say this but it really was a privilege to be part of this work.
Our recent paper (led by the fantastic Ben Royer @swallacelab.bsky.social) shows how engineered Ecoli can turn the main product of PET plastic breakdown it into an anti-Parkinsons drug (L-DOPA)

There's a lot of discussion whether economic growth & carbon emissions can be decoupled. Some critics say countries (e.g UK) reduce emissions while growing by offshoring pollution (i.e. to China).
This is a fantastic rebuttal- China continues to grow economically with reduced CO2 emissions.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

with @kittyclouston.bsky.social, Connor Trotter, @louismarlow.bsky.social & @swallacelab.bsky.social we look at re-purposing photosynthetic bacteria for chemical production, how non-evolutionary microbe-solar interfaces can be engineered, and what this means for the future of sustainable chemistry.
You can't think about a sustainable chemical industry without considering our most abundant energy source: sunlight.
So how can we engineer microbes to harness this energy for our benefit?
