Multiscale Modelling Reveals Accelerating Community Outbreak Risks of Measles in the United States Measles resurgence in high-income countries that previously achieved elimination reveals a critical surveillance failure: current systems rely on county-level aggregates that obscure fine-scale cluste...

New study from my group on measles in the US helps explain why South Carolina’s 789‑case outbreak is exactly what you’d expect when under‑vaccinated schools and cross‑county school‑district corridors are invisible to county‑level surveillance

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

I like the recommendation "Avoid overly broad funding calls." For decades I have recommended that the Portuguese funding agency stops "calls in all domains". But it is 2026 and we are still going through these expensive motions that likely pass the Szilard point...

Pleased to finally share this: our paper on sex-specific transcriptomic similarity networks to study comorbidities is published! This started from a simple but annoying gap: we know that women and men have different multimorbidity patterns, but we still rarely look at the underlying biology by sex.
