When all this is over, I'll keep coming back to the fact that the US both 1) un-sanctioned Iranian oil and 2) blocked Iranian oil exports within a 30-day period as the best encapsulation of the strategic incoherence of this whole war.

#CivMil would this be treated as insubordination? (I'm not taking a position because I need to reflect on 2nd 3rd order effects.)

Most southern West Point Officers honored their oaths and stayed with the U.S. Army.
Only *one* Colonel in his cohort chose to resign and join the treason, that piece of shit slaver Bobby Lee.

Really love Taylor Swift’s commitment to the joint fight in ‘Ophelia:’

“Keep it one hundred
On the land, the sea, the sky
Pledge allegiance to your hands
Your team, your vibes”

Damn the way congressional members are reacting to this you'd think you'd just started a large-scale conventional conflict

Inside the Department of War are two wolves:

"We've shut down the Colleges of War because book learnings are woke, gay, and irrelevant to war fighting."

"How come no one told us the Strait is important, there are different kinds of Kurds, Iran is big, and air power historically doesn't win wars?"

It is reported that Russians have developed a new drone that operates without a single communication channel& attacks its target autonomously.

Ukrainian military specialist in electronic warfare &communications, head of the Center for Radiotechnologies Serhii Beskrestnov, callsign "Flash," warned⤵️

I'd say it's a skill issue. In our crew it wasn't hard to get daily scores of 60% or higher consistently. Of course that's counting hits on target. But the thing is you're working with other FPV teams, Mavic bombers, and artillery. As always- combined arms.

so, as multiple people have said, meeting recruitment targets pre-Hegseth in US came from mainly female enlistments

At this point ADM Paparo should just invade Tampa as a deterrent against Beijing.

"High-minded," not "foundational."

Think of the implicit architectural metaphor here. If your building isn't grounded in "democracy and morality," but those are rather on the precarious upper stories, what is its foundation?

@iwriteok.bsky.social: listening to your Illuminati series as I exit a subway and run into the Bilderberg Group heading into the Stockholm School of Economics, while they’re in town for their meeting.

This Russian base housing electronic warfare systems, drone jammers and more was struck by four GBU-39 (SDB) and completely destroyed.

@vesselspotter.bsky.social doing more excellent shipping sleuthing and finding a Facebook-ad (sic) where one can buy 30k tons Russian diesel that recently passed Skagen anchorage and a detention by Danish authorities.

‘What military commanders do and how they do it’ has climbed to be the most popular article in @sjms.bsky.social 🙏🎉

It was the first product of my PhD journey, and I regularly revisit it.

There are quite a few fun gems in there, as well as some analysis of decision-making.

On the (incredible) Ukr operation yesterday -

People are jumping on the 'drones vs bombers' piece as if it has changed warfare. Forgive me, but I think that's the wrong analysis. This is an example of a well-executed classic special forces operation: uncoventional warfare behind enemy lines.

Russia shatters drone record, launches 472 UAVs at Ukraine night before Kyiv's strike on Russian airfields The mass aerial attack breaks Russia's previous record, set just last week on May 26, by over 100 drones.

This is getting somewhat lost. The night before Ukraine's drone raid, Russia conducted what was the largest drone attack on Ukraine in the war to date—and, I guess, ever—with 472 Shahed-type attack drones. Broke last week's record by 100 drones.

So, to recap:
-Extensive Ukrainian planning to smuggle in, transport, then launch dozens of cheap FPV drones from the back of transport trucks
-4 to 5 bases hit, including deep into Siberia
-Ukraine says 41 planes damaged/destroyed, Russia says 10.

A Ukrainian 2S1 "Gvozdika" (Carnation) 122mm self propelled gun has a dugout so deep it struggles to get out for a fire mission.
It is great to see the strong anti-FPV protective netting temporarily pulled aside at the entrance.

History suggests the “American way of war” is to fight in combined operations alongside our allies and partners.

Though we pride ourselves on mission command, we can get better. sorensjogren.bsky.social is a great resource thinking about how we conduct mission command in that context.

For those following along on Twitter around that time, there was a (supposed - I believe he was, but never saw any proof) Ukr engineering officer talking about how they detected the bridge crossing.
But according to the article, there was def more to the story.

The Secret History of the War in Ukraine (Gift Article) This is the untold story of America’s hidden role in Ukrainian military operations against Russia’s invading armies.

The NYT article about the US support for Ukraine was very interesting overall, but the thing that stuck out was the discussion around the defense of Sievierodonetsk, where they talk about pontoon bridges:
