As the government continues to shape its housing and homelessness plans, it must ensure there is long-term and predictable funding alongside sustainable solutions to respond to encampments.
Moving forward, it is essential that these responses to encampments respect #HumanRights, meaningfully engage encampment residents, and allow people to live in safety and dignity.
This is a welcomed and essential step that will provide supports to people who need it most, and to communities and organizations on the front lines of this work.
Last week, the government announced it was extending the Unsheltered Homelessness and Encampments Initiative for another year by providing $125 million in funding.
The Federal Housing Advocate commends the extension of federal funding to support people experiencing #homelessness and living in #encampments.
➡️ Join the Advocate on April 14 at a webinar hosted by the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association where the authors @cwhitzman.bsky.social and Alexandra Flynn will discuss their work.
