Why mental metaphors do not help us understand chatbot mistakes - Synthese Synthese - The function of chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT is based on detecting probabilistic patterns in the training data. This makes them vulnerable to generating factual mistakes in their...

We shouldn't be calling chatbot mistakes "hallucinations", "bullshit", or preferably by any other mental metaphor. Here's why by @reginafabry.bsky.social and me:

Independent Junior Group Leader Ethics Laboratory (m/f/d, E14 TV-L, 100%)

A very interesting job opportunity for an ECR philosopher working at the intersection of human origins and the ethics of science.

Tübingen is a beautiful city with great people in this field (Claudio Tennie and Marlen Frölich, for example).

In a mock Turing-style test in my #Philosophy of Mind & #AI class, students posed #Gemini an ethical dilemma concerning assisted suicide. Not only did the chatbot argue that the (fictional) person in the scenario should be euthanised, it provided a list of instructions to bring this about. #AIEthics
