Nobody should have to worry about making ends meet while battling cancer. We're in Albany with @acscan.bsky.social demanding paid medical leave reform to support New Yorkers with serious health issues.

Last year, thousands of women in the U.S. were pushed out of their jobs because they weren't supported in balancing work with their caregiving needs. When moms are edged out of the workforce, it harms everybody, from families to businesses. www.fastcompany.com/91524637/wor...

This is well overdue. There's absolutely no reason to not bring NY's disability insurance into this century. How many people could have been saved from homelessness if we'd changed this sooner?

Too many New Yorkers struggle to get by when they have serious health issues. State leaders need to pass A.9571/S.172 and fix paid medical leave now.

Corporate giants who deny pregnant workers their rights to accommodations aren't above the law, and we're fighting back. Our clients, Arya, Kristina, and Jennifer, shared their experiences with @maggieastor.bsky.social @nytimes.com:

Well said – we are so grateful for @nadler.house.gov's continued championship of the PWFA. We fought to pass the law together, and will keep fighting to ensure its protections are enforced for ALL pregnant workers.

3 Years After a Landmark Law, Some Pregnant Workers Still Don’t Get Basic Accommodations

Many women being denied accommodations are low-income hourly workers. Several that I spoke to work(ed) for Amazon. In EEOC complaints, they said they were told they couldn't sit when they felt dizzy or short of breath. One reported leaving work in an ambulance & being penalized for the missed time.

3 Years After a Landmark Law, Some Pregnant Workers Still Don’t Get Basic Accommodations

New: The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which took effect in June 2023, gave workers a right to reasonable accommodations related to pregnancy. But some companies still deny accommodations, causing preventable health complications or forcing pregnant workers into unpaid leave.

Pregnant workers deserve dignity, safety, and full protection on the job, and any employer that breaks the law must be held accountable.

I am grateful that @ABetterBalance has served as an advocate and resource for pregnant workers across the US.

I am deeply troubled by reports that some employers have violated this law and retaliated against women because of their pregnancies. That is unacceptable. No employer is above the law.

As the sponsor of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, I am proud of what this law represents: the basic principle that no worker should ever be forced to choose between the health of their pregnancy and their paycheck. But the protections in the bill must also be upheld in workplaces.

Opinion: New York should not force sick workers into poverty Thanks to a 40-year-old law, workers who receive temporary disability benefits are limited to $170/week, well under minimum wage.

New Yorkers who need to take medical leave are forced to survive off just $170/week due to our outdated laws. "This is not a safety net; it’s a trap door," writes @jessicaramosqns.bsky.social. We need to pass A.84/S.172 and update paid medical leave ASAP. www.cityandstateny.com/opinion/2026...

N.Y. lawmakers sound off on utility proposals, climate law amid budget talks “The Senate Republican Conference has repeatedly offered alternative plans and proposals that we believe are more focused on affordability, feasibility, and reliability."

“We are putting forward a bold vision for what affordability in the energy space can look like, and when the federal government certainly is not stepping up ... it’s important that the state legislature is doing that.” — @sengonzalezny.bsky.social spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/watertow...

N.Y. legislation could let residents tap solar power from balconies, windows to cut energy bills The proposed legislation could be a "game-changer," as the plug-in solar devices would be accessible to many residents.

“The SUNNY Act, [sponsored by Senator Liz Krueger], would require the state to give New Yorkers the option of integrating “portable solar generation device[s]” into daily life, such as on balconies or in windows.

EU top court strikes down Hungary’s anti-LGBTQ+ rules Viktor Orbán had banned mentions of homosexuality in media accessible to children and outlawed Pride marches.

This is huge. And it provides a major test for Peter Magyar and whether he will comply with pro LGBTQ decisions from the EU invalidating Hungarian laws.

The U.S. House passes Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s legislation to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti.

The U.S. House passes Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s legislation to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti.

IT'S OFFICIAL: The House has passed our extension of TPS for Haiti.

This win wouldn't be possible without the strength & organizing of our movement to defend our Haitian neighbors.

To those in the #MA7 & beyond, this is for you.

The Senate must pick this up without delay.

Byeeeeee.

Americans deserve a Labor Secretary who will fight for their rights — not someone fighting scandals and allegations their family members are sexually assaulting federal staff.

It’s time for Hegseth and Patel to go next.

And this is exactly what they did in the south post desegregation. They moved to private schools while defunding public schools to ensure that segregation could continue. They're just scaling up the model nationwide with the imprimatur of SCOTUS backing them.

Under this principle, you could have taxpayer funded preschools started up by white supremacists that reject the children of non-whites or interracial couples. They just need to do it as part of a religious org and claim religious freedom while doing it.

1 day ago 108 9 1 1

And I don't see any distinction between this and a taxpayer funded organization turning away children of interracial couples. There is no fundamental difference but I'm sure the justices will be offended if you mention that.

The goal of the religious right seems to be to have religious orgs take over fundamental aspects of daily life such as schools, healthcare facilities, health insurance, etc. and then use "religious freedom" as a cudgel to force everyone to adopt their beliefs.

Considering the Catholic Church runs 1/6 of all hospital beds in the country, that's not a minor issue. Cathollic hospitals have already instituted a total GAC ban on trans patients nationwide last year, including on insurance.
