Involvement of episodic memory in language comprehension: Naturalistic comprehension pushes unrelated words closer in semantic space for at least 12 h Recent experience with a word significantly influences its subsequent interpretation. For instance, encountering bank in a river-related context biase…

Very proud of this latest paper, which shows that reading two unrelated words in a meaningful sentence will push these words closer in semantic space—an effect observed 5min, 20min, and 12 hrs after initial exposure.

Experimental psychology friends! How do you handle critiques of your cross-sectional aging study during a job talk with suggestions to use longitudinal methods? Both have strengths & weaknesses (any suggested articles?). Comparing their similarities feels more useful than ranking one over the other.

I've been talking to UG students a lot about essay writing this week. Interested to know what others make of my advice to them:
Pretty much every good psychology essay includes a balance of theory and evidence. Sometimes it helps to reframe the question to make it clear that both are relevant.

I've created a starter pack with researchers who study #reading or #psycholinguistics, more generally, in #languages other than English: go.bsky.app/E2e9Afg. Please write to me if you or someone you know should be added (of if you've been added and would like to be removed)!

As I've been seeing a lot of job postings here, I've set up a NeuroJobs feed. Add #NeuroJobs to your post if you're recruiting or looking for a PhD, Postdoc, or faculty position in Neuro or an adjacent field.

I think the last single author publication I had was my thesis, but in any case, here's another. An integrated framework for the learning, recognition and interpretation of words. 100% Gaskell, for better or for worse: doi.org/10.1177/1747...

Preregistration: More Promises than Pitfalls Or, maybe the real pitfalls are different from what we usually think

New blog post! "Preregistration: More Promises than Pitfalls," some thoughts inspired by the recent meeting at the Royal Society. I don't find many pitfalls with preregistration itself, but there are plenty of problems with how we talk about it. getsyeducated.substack.com/p/preregistr...
