London bars shun Margot Robbie’s gin over shellfish allergen concerns Exclusive: actor’s Papa Salt gin to get oyster-free version after venues says it is ‘not worth the risk’ Margot Robbie said she “couldn’t wait” to see the artisan gin brand she had created stocked in her London local. But the willingness of the capital’s venues to fulfil her dream has been seriously compromised by three words on the side of the bottle – “warning: contains molluscs”. The Wuthering Heights star has had to change the recipe of her spirit after top London bars and restaurants rejected it due to allergen concerns, the Guardian can reveal. Continue reading...

Allergen Warnings New Ingredients | Allergenen Consultancy An additional allergen warning on the packaging is sometimes necessary for novel foods or new ingredients. This applies to, among other things, rapeseed protein, insects, canary seed and peas.

an explaination as to why rapeseed protein carries an allergen warning can be found here www.allergenenconsultancy.nl/en/nieuws/ni...

A recall based on potential cross-reactivity to one of the 14 regulated allergens. Is this a first? has anyone else seen this before and how is something like this determined? This was not the case few years ago with the almond/mahlab story. www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/...

An example of the need for standarisation with Precautionary Allergen Labelling. PAL statements on front and back of pack don't match. Tuk In Foods. I work in the industry and I still find this sort of thing confusing. #foodallergy #PAL

The community dispersed across threads and instagram or some gave up on social media altogether. On twitter we used to have allergy hour, 8:30 to 9:30 on a Thursday evening. The only reason I still have a twitter account is because the schools use it as tool to communicate with parents

I have been using LinkedIn a lot more recently but it is a bit of an echo chamber in my profession, I find it difficult to get a dialogue going on there. Too much self congratulation. I have tried to get the food allergen community going again on here, but it is hard work.

Apologies for jumping in on the conversation, but the thing I mourn the most about the loss of twitter is the focused community groups, in my case, the food allergen community. It used to be a great leveler where researchers/HCPs could connect directly to those directly effected. all fractured now.

Lesser-known food allergens are actually behind many serious reactions Foods like goat or sheep milk and buckwheat are behind many cases of severe allergic reactions, but may not be listed as such on a product's label

I'm sad to say that since leaving Twitter/X my sales for live shows have dropped quite a lot - it turns out that even though it's a dreadful place it was still useful for getting the word out about events. So any shares / RTs of my posts about live shows are hugely appreciated!

Immunology in Coeliac Disease.

T cells, APCs, B & epithelial cells drive CeD. The Exact immunologic sequence is unknown. HLA-DQ2 & DQ8 are essential. Without DQ2 and DQ8, CeD is (mostly) ruled out.

Vanderbilt Biomedical Research Paves Way for ‘Hypoallergen’ Treatments Against Peanut Allergy These results validate ‘hypoallergens’ as a potential therapeutic against peanut allergy, which we hope to use as vaccines in sensitive individuals.

Vanderbilt developed a method to determine which regions of peanut protein bind to antibodies that trigger reactions. They then generated antibody variants that disrupted the process. This method could potentially be applied to other allergens. #foodallergies
