This recent essay by @snow117.bsky.social is one of the best I've read around the seemingly eternal "is the #OSR dead" conversation. Honestly, it puts into words things I've felt for a long time about how #TTRPG categorization has been (and should be) done.

I had no idea when I first made Gunnhild that there are no female dwarves in Wulfwald (Appendix C wasn’t in my PDFs!) so she became canonically trans. This transformed her from comedy sidekick character to woman-on-a-mission. I love when a setting has crags for you to grab onto.
Inspo for Gunnhild came from the Berserker chess piece from the Lewis hoard, with a mixed pictish/roman shield cus why not it’s fantasy.
Drew my Wulfwald character during the game tonight, Gunnhild the Dweorgas Scildsweostor. Foul-mouthed, stone-lifting, prince-killer. They say there are no Dweorgwifs, but she aims to prove everyone wrong. Even if it means being an outlaw, even if it means defying the gods.

I must admit I stick mostly to reading OSR stuff these days, but I played and read a ton of various stuff in the 80s and 90s, and dipped my toe into a few Forge/Story games when that was a thing.

Wasn't really that aware of Free League but when I went to their page there were plenty of games I recognised by name, and lots of cool licenses.
It all looks expensively wonderful and dangerous to the wallet.
Also thinking about grabbing the Dragonbane digital stuff to run it on Alchemy VTT
Just ordered the Dragonbane boxed set from Free League Publishing.
Looks fun. I dig the combo of BRP/RQ inspired rule set, but with a GURPS like roll-under system.
Aesthetic looks cool too.
Still not sure about the Ducks though.

Garden of Ynn is something that I think I could drop into a campaign as is, as a weird portal side adventure.
I mean it is great as a standalone, but it would've fun to hide a macguffin in it that the players need for the main campaign.

I like BRPs D100%, and Savage Worlds dice step is neat, but one of MY favourites is GURPS 3d6 roll under mechanic.
Especially the 'Defaults' system. I always found that gave players the ability to attempt anything within reason, and have a good idea of what their chances are.
