Had to go and double-check our own work... 😌
Thankfully, yes, we had the same thoughts. All-caps and underlined text are generally best avoided for readability.

I’m genuinely impressed it still exists. Was doing very specific deep searches recently and getting very varied results between Google, Ecosia and Bing. Would you recommend adding DuckDuckGo into my mix???

Browsing website data for the AMR project site and realising that people still use duckduckgo as a search engine! 🦆 If we can get an AskJeeves referral next I'll be ecstatic.
I'd very much welcome tips on how to help promote traffic to the website and expand reach to educators #NotJustGoogle

AMR Graphic Novels – Engaging learners with antimicrobial resistance through the use of graphic novels.

Do you know any college or sixth‑form science educators? We’d love to hear from them! We’re offering our AMR graphic novel + free classroom copies. Please share or tag others 👇 I'd really the appreciate support in sharing.

Thanks Brigitte, its been a great project to work on & we still have lots more planned!
We are looking for as many College and University teachers and educators to make use of the graphic novel in their teaching so that we can explore the impact on interest and engagement ✏️ Plus Issue 2 is planned

Amazing #SciComm work here from @jordancollver.bsky.social and team. The use of visual communication to connect virology with the human experience is fantastic. More of this please! #Microbiology #Graphicnovels #SciArt

🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..

We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.

And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

Our graphic novel features this topic prominently, helping learners understand how farming practices influence microbial resistance, and how bacteriophages might be key players in the solutions.

An interesting read on different approaches to diagnostics. My brain always jumps straight to rapid NGS, but simple, affordable diagnostics should be even more accessible than sequencing. #AMR

Great blog, highly relevant for inclusive teaching too. With new cohorts I write down names phonetically and try to use students’ names out loud at least three times- it helps me commit to memory.

Two things
1) antimicrobial stewardship
2) chronic UTIs could be a sign of bacterial vaginosis which is now considered an STI

Interesting times ahead for the AMR, AMS, and AMU researchers!

It has indeed. I've been collaborating with an amazing artist who was already familiar with your visual narrative work, so the project turned out to be a great exercise in cross-discipline communication. We're now exploring the impact on students' interest, engagement & reading asylumseventy7.co.uk

Adopting and adapting visual narrative grammar for AMR – AMR Graphic Novels

It has been great to really think about how complex science can be scaffolded with a research‑informed approach to designing comics that feel intuitive, promotes comprehension, supports memory, and encourages reflective, critical engagement. amrgraphicnovels.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/2026/03/12/a...

These are educational levers like social relevance, negativity (i.e. what happens if the opposite happens), and counterintuitive elements, all well described by @jordancollver.bsky.social livrepository.liverpool.ac.uk/3194747/

Learning more about visual narrative grammar, we also became much more deliberate about the educational levers built into the AMR graphic novel. Readers need intrigue, cognitive scaffolding, and moments that stick. Visual setups that invite a question, pacing that nudges anticipation.

A comic style book titled 'Speaking in Pictures' by Neil Cohn shown on a table alongside a plushie microbe.

A real turning point was encountering work from @neilcohn.bsky.social which gave a language for something I’d been intuitively sensing but couldn’t articulate. Panels function like grammatical units in a sentence, which influenced how I looked at comics and how we designed the AMR graphic novel

The graphic novel project has been a great chance to contemplate scientific sequencing (sketching flow charts, mapping mechanisms, arranging ideas step‑by‑step) complements how readers parse image sequences using similar patterns #SciComm #MicrobiologyEducation #SciArt #ScienceComic #VisualSciComm

I even ran the final file through Blackboard Ally and not only did it hit a 100% accessibility score, but Ally successfully generated MP3 and HTML alternative formats straight from the comic.
👌 Perfectly readable, perfectly navigable.
