TLDR and take-home key points:

✅ PTZ 3.375g IV Q6H is effective for MIC ≤8 mg/L

✅ Neither standard nor high-dose achieves 90% PTA for MIC ≥16 mg/L w/ short infusions

✅ Extended infusions are key for high-MIC infections!

Thanks for this interesting paper. Note that this is a small study using a surrogate outcome, personally I wouldn't immediately conclude that it actually works for stone prevention, don't you think?

hard cosign from a nicardipine stan 😁

in general the pathophysiology of most hypertensive emergencies is excess *vasoconstriction*

using a beta-blocker to treat vasoconstriction can precipitate hypoperfusion, because you’re not fixing the problem #EMIMCC

Ever since the Dobbs ruling, when a Missouri doctor enters an ectopic pregnancy diagnosis into the electronic medical record, a large red banner pops up asking if she’s sure the diagnosis is accurate. If the embryo or fetus has a heartbeat, she has to consult an attorney.
