Sorting through record boxes for some upcoming gigs and realised I have 2 copies of this ace LP by Valentina Magaletti & Ypy Kansai. I'm listening to lots of percussive electro & tribal sounds at the moment so if you fancy a trade get in touch.

Still from Children of the Stones. A field with some large upright stones placed at regular intervals within it.
'They discuss the cultural impact of the series on Stewart Lee, Boards Of Canada, folk horror and all sorts of wizards, along with Julian Cope’s critique before going on to make comparisons with Dr Who and True Detective.'

The Modern Girl and Showa Era Commercial Art This 1931 advertisement for a Victor gramophone represents a pivotal moment in Japanese graphic design, where traditional aesthetics were increasingly blended with global modernism. The illustration features a young woman—a personification of the "Modern Girl" (moga) archetype—holding a Victor vinyl record against her shoulder with a slight, knowing smile. While she wears a traditional light green kimono adorned with butterfly motifs and a floral obi, her stylishly waved hair and the prominent inclusion of Western technology signal the cosmopolitan lifestyle emerging in urban Japan. This specific image was later utilized in the English translation of Jun'ichirō Tanizaki’s novel Naomi, a literary work that famously explores the cultural tensions and fascinations surrounding Westernization and the shifting identity of Japanese women during the 1920s. The sophisticated color palette and the figure’s elongated, graceful features reflect the influence of artists like Takabatake Kashō, whose work defined the visual language of Taisho and early Showa era magazines. Similar to Kashō's depictions of women gazing into mirrors or engaging in quiet reflection, this advertisement uses soft, naturalistic tones to create an idealized vision of modern femininity.
