If you can handle it, I find gentle stretching and laying flat on my back helps. Ideally with my legs raised on pillows. If flat doesn't work for you, maybe a wedge pillow lean? Takes the pressure off the low back when sitting upright-ish.

For my back injury & fibro, I use a mixture of Chiropractor + Ice pack (the clay kind, so I can lean or lay on them) + Biofreeze/Icy hot patches + KT tape + NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Advil)

If it was a sudden injury, definitely x-rays and a good chiro.
