There were a number of #undersea quests, usually involving some obscure magical protection, but, in general, characters in the game could only swim on the surface of water.

Which was a pity, because Rory had seen some intriguing ruins under some stretches of water, ever out of his reach.

Dawn breaks without the noise of songbirds, creatures old legends tell of, before the floods.

Children now sleep in high trees, as we scour for food below; hoping in the future, they’ll find a way to rid the invading monsters from #undersea —could there be, songbirds again.

Five paragraphs of text from short story, 'GK 472'. Text follows:

Mr. Hammond then took me to a little lounge where he left me alone for ten to fifteen minutes with a coffee and a banana chocolate muffin. When he came back, he asked me a strange thing.
He asked, “Are you sure you wish to work for Omnicustodial Services?”
Well, I thought, this must be how they like to make the newbies feel empowered.
I said, “Sure, definitely,” and, it was then that I officially signed on the dotted line.
He initialled my signature like he was witnessisng it, even adding his button number — GK 135 — and formally welcomed me to OCS.

"They're off. Now we need to keep them in the air for, what, 4.5h."
"Got that covered," said Moya. "A challenge has been posted to some followers. They'll keep them hopping by continuously redirecting them."

"Moya, do you have a better plan?" asked Arth.
"No. And, let's send up a few decoys also."
"Good idea." Tamara jogged into traffic toward the courier tower followed by the others.

"There? How will the CRN* help us?" Moya looked about franically, hearing the whine of several approaching cycles. "They can intercept the chips at their destination."
Tamara gazed at the nearest pad 300m away. "Ah. Brilliant. We keep them in the air,

"Yeah. Three datachips worth. They'll all go down when the newies get their hands on them."

Arth nudged Moya's arm. "There."

"Oh, it looks like the weather is turning," the woman said brightly, tilting her cart onto its two wheels. "You have a good evening, Dearie," she added as she began pushing the cart.
Several bottles jumped, and she quickly placed a soothing hand on them.

"You didn't hear. She only has six, you know, of that #word left in her bank for this month."
"Oh, golly. I didn't know. That's going to leave her kinda speechless for the next two weeks. Oh. No! I used up one of my G words."
"I'm sure she'll really appreciate it.

HYB* Tech, a marvel in vehicular safety, promised to eliminate deadly accidents by creating temporal bubble moments before impact, allowing rescue ops time to extract pre-victims.

For 37 hours Marcy's SUV hung 15m above a remote, boulder strewn canyon.

I agree. Something(s) that should've been left 'sleeping'. Hopefully, I'll be able able to add a unique slant to the storytelling.

Many of my shorter stories (wips) occur in contemporary, rather mundane settings.
One occurs mostly in a curio shop; but I would consider that creepy rather than scary.
Life (cryo) pods aboard spacecraft figure prominently in two.

Time harvesters–

"Do you ever go inside?"
"You serio, gal? Only a fool would slice into there. Even shielded mech-droids can only last a small hour before degrading. Time rusts everything inside a t-reservoir. Why fleshwise wouldn't last more than a mere minute."
