I loved it so much, I may go again. I hope youāll like it too. š

Wow, that was amazing. Fantastic conducting, playing, singing. A brilliant production. And what a masterpiece the work itself is! ā¤ļø #DiePassagierin #Weinberg
Straight off the Eurostar from London to Dutch National Operaās opening night of Kratzerās production of Die Passagierin. Had a few glasses of very good SpƤtburgunder with a friend who knows her wines, so Iām ready. ššŗš š¼
Note to self: When The Netherlands Bach Societyās season subscriptions go on sale at 10am and youāre travelling to the UK, the Netherlands Bach society doesnāt move with you to the new time zone. š (No front row for the St Matthew next year, but still quite a good seat.) Oh, the hardships of life⦠š
Lovely London on the way toā¦
Thatās what I got from most of the reviews too. A shame though.
The production looks quite annoying. Did it get in the way? (Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?)
Bedtime after a truly wonderful dinner with old friends at #Perilla in London. (With some very good -Slovenian- wine). Life can be good. #HappyBunny
A good start to the day⦠#sun #coffee #Amsterdam
Makes me think of Gabriel Zuchtriegelās brilliant book on academics and - amongst others - their emotional attachment and passion to the work. Such an important and wonderfully honestly written work. ā¤ļø
āGo and see a physio for your frozen shoulderā, they said. They might as well have said ātorturerā. Nothing wrong with a grown man climbing on top of me. On the contrary. But when he dug his elbow into my back and leaned on it with all his weight, Iām afraid the noises I made wereā¦ š±š¤£ #PAIN
Since the Dutch are so tall (Iām the only short one), The Netherlands might be a good starting point. A quick search led me here: www.prettybigshoes.com/shops?shoe-s...

ā¦a meditation on the human condition⦠and a last moment of stillness before Suzuki unleashed an almighty āLass ihn Kreuzigen!ā (āBarabamā was even more terrifying), and perhaps my favourite moment came early on with Miku Yasukawa in āBlute nurā - such an amazingly pure, even voice. Heaven!
Wow, that was magic, especially being so close to the musicians. Mulroy a fantastic Evangelist, and MacLeod a dream of a Jesus. Chance very impressive (a great āAch! Nun istā⦠and āErbarme Dichā, with a virtuoso violin solo by Cecilia Bernardini), BlažĆkovĆ” in an āAus Liebeā that becameā¦
Thank you!
Always good to be close to the action⦠𤣠#HIP
Completely agree. Also, I go and see a lot of baroque music, and I think itās simply too big a venue for it. Plus it seems to attract a lot of people who are there for the hall, who frequently film during concerts, or talk and/or are on their phone. Turns out Iām a bit puritanical in that regard⦠š
Here we go, the St Matthew Passions in the holy of holies (if youāre Dutch): Naarden. A much more intimate setting than the Concertgebouw, particularly since Iām sitting in the front row. ššŗ #Bach #NetherlandsBachSociety #Matthew
ā¦Luckily Iām seeing the same St Matthew tomorrow in the church at Naarden. A much more appropriate and atmospheric venue. (Am I the only one who doesnāt really like the Concertgebouw?)
Well, half of that was fab. Great conducting, top soloists (BlažĆkovĆ” is ill, but her replacement was great). But⦠a French family with giggling teenagers meant I couldnāt get into it, so I left at the intervalā¦
Back to the #Concertgebouw tonight for another St Matthew, this time with #NetherlandsBachSociety and Masaaki Suzuki. This will probably be a totally different experience from Pichonās theatricalities last night. #Bach
Ah, good point. I havenāt, so Iād love to see them! šš»
Sounds like itās worth a detour to Trafalgar Square when Iām briefly in London next week! šš»
