So… academia? 😬

I didn’t read the a full piece, but the concept of faculty doing all their research with LLMs makes me wonder how academia will serve students anymore. Why go into academia if they don’t want to mentor students and give them opportunities to learn through research? Narcissism.

a bob 's burgers cartoon shows a family sitting around a table Alt: an animated image from the tv show bob's burgers, which shows the Belcher family sitting around a table as Tina, the eldest child, drops to the floor and states “if you need me I’ll be down here on the floor, dying.”

That feeling when you get the go-ahead to finally send the manuscript of your PhD work to your co-authors

The danger to my job from AI isn't that AI can do my job, it's that my job is made even more precarious by the way AI is shaping ideas of the value of work. It can't do my job, but it can be part of convincing people (incorrectly) that my job isn't necessary.

My mom used to get so mad at me because I’d open them up and take little scraping bites off the top like it was a giant popsicle.

Which means it’s extra important for those of us with knowledge in applicable fields to be out in the community having conversations and giving people the information they need to advocate for themselves and the health of their communities. “Optional” does not mean banned.

I like to step away from a screen and physically draw/write my proposal concepts on paper, and map out the details. This also helps with brainstorming from scratch. Sketch out your ideas, precedence, and possible experiments. Start big and whittle down.

Since they just announced their annual international scientific meeting will be held in Florida in 2026, here’s hoping the @globalvirusnews.bsky.social incorporates some free outreach programs for the public. Hold some accessible talks at a library or school. Encourage conversations Anything! 🦠🧪

I did not know Helen, but I followed their journey on this platform and always appreciated their candidness with what they were experiencing. We are so used to people hiding away when struggling with terminal illness and facing death, but Helen went against the grain, and I appreciated that so much.

Thinking about the FDA approval of Lenacapavir today, during #pride month. I wonder what pride month, & our society as a whole, would look like today if the millions that have died were still alive today?
