Like a stubborn bloom
Living in cracks of concrete
You cannot kill hope.

Starmer says migrants should speak English – but all of the UK’s languages are important for integration Mike Chick, Senior Lecturer in TESOL/English, University of South Wales, Gwennan Higham Senior Lecturer in Welsh, Swansea University, Sarah Cox, Research Fellow, The Open University When Keir Starmer…

If the UK is serious about being a modern, inclusive and multicultural state, it must embrace the reality that it is also multilingual, and that different nations may choose different routes to welcome those seeking sanctuary

It was fascinating to hear about Prof. @tessf10.bsky.social, @steveabertawe.bsky.social & Dr Theo Mills' work this PM.

Their site contains a range of word association data to investigate the mental lexicon, including semantic dementia & cancer care.

On Wednesday, I'll be giving a talk as part of @swanseauni.bsky.social Language Research Centre's seminar series.

In it, I'll be exploring the political identities constructed by the radical right on Twitter & how #linguistics can help law enforcement tackle extremism & radicalisation.

Really enjoyed (remotely) attending today's #LRC seminar at @swanseauni.bsky.social where @tessf10.bsky.social, @steveabertawe.bsky.social & Dr Theo Mills talked about the #bilingual #lexicon.

It was interesting to hear how closely people's word association answers are across languages.
