A LOT of problems in the discourse are reflected in the number of people who say things like "it's harder for articles against treating trans people like people to be published in top journals" and think everyone will immediately agree it's bc of bias and not bc it's junk science

Day two of my under-loved #TransRightsReadathon recommendations is OBVIOUSLY about small press novellas! Because what could be more satisfying during a readathon than a stack of novellas?

Absolutely.
And treating it as a mistake is a tell. The "mistakes" are the craft qualities that make his prose shine compared to the general gray mass of AI prose.
I blame the creators of LLMs.
I will happily defend the prose in Blood Meridian, if not anything else about him.
