I’m in the midst of these conversations, too. Folks I mentor are trying to find jobs. Will our publication record prevent them from getting hired by folks complying with censorship?

I work at the pace my partnerships allow. Time for last minute caregiving shifts, adjustments for the hustle of everyday life, time out for life changes (new schools, homes). And accommodating disabled and chronically ill mindbodies.

And my work is better for it.

I’m a learning geek. I adore children’s perspectives + expertise. I’m grateful everyday for family partnerships. I’m in awe of the work teachers do to cultivate children’s brilliance. I’m a science nerd.

I’m a disabled, queer, scholar.

All of this leads me to a #SlowResearch approach.

Hey fellow disabled scholars! The ISLS accommodations process is SUPER EASY. As someone who was BEEN THROUGH IT with invasive processes, this is not that. If you have concerns, please reach out!! ISLS is making sure that remote presenters are deeply integrated in conference activity! Don't miss out!

Some how, our uni president is letting us keep our faculty senate. But we’re only an advisory body with no real power thanks to the new TX law.

The extra-official work is going to be KEY in coming years.

TIL that Moms for America, Moms for Liberty, and Parents Defending Education have signed the White House's pledge to America's youth to invest in AI education, which further clarifies how this AI education initiative is a political project and whose vision of education is being prioritized.

Seth is a PhD student at UC Irvine where he designs learning experiences and tools using participatory design research methods that center the values, desires, and aspirations of the groups that will engage with them. For his dissertation, he is working to co-design analytics that illuminate how people participate in and learn during collaborative design activities. Seth received a B.A. in Chemistry and a minor in Science and Mathematics Education from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to UC Irvine he worked as a research assistant at the Concord Consortium and BSCS , conducting design-based implementation research and engaging in co-design with youth, informal science educators, science content experts, and researchers. What’s happening is a lot of people who thought a little fascism just meant clearing out some undesirables and making the trains run on time are realizing that actually yes they too will be effected and it’s making them slightly nervous.

I’m going to say this louder this time: if you are lying about having a high-risk condition to get a Covid vaccine, all good, do what you want to do BUT show some actual goddamn respect for people who *actually* have that condition and start masking.

Why do you appreciate unions?

I’ll start:

Weekends off
Paid vacations
Work breaks
Sick leave
Paid holidays
No child labor
Safer working conditions
Health care and retirement benefits

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it will ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.”

Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment.

No questions asked.

No proof required.

Pass it on.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

Since the answer to the first question will be "no" for students in 99.5% of all circumstances, maybe stop there?
