The "ChatGPT Health Will Kill You" Study LLMs can't triage, for the millionth time.

Don't trust ChatGPT Health – or likely any general health LLM – to give you medical advice in the context of a serious acute illness. Patient triage is clearly outside its functional requirements.

How Low Can You Go? Rethinking Lumbar Punctures for Well-Appearing Febrile Infants Do you need to perform an LP on every infant under 28 days of age or can we use the PECARN febrile infant rule?

Management of the febrile infant has changed quite a bit. @spiroskara.bsky.social and I cover the @jama.com paper from Drs. Burstein and Kuppermann. You may no longer need to LP infants <28 days if they meet @pecarn.bsky.social low risk criteria! buff.ly/3ngdS5R #PedSky #PedsEM #FOAMed #MedSky

Thats the question! The answer goes beyond just numbers & into the consequences. What would a court of law judge? Would a professional be supported in making the evidence based decision that gave a bad outcome? it probably influences certain clinicians’ actions more than the evidence. . . . .

That was all the more satisfying because we beat Leinster in the exact way that they tend to lose games. Give them no defensive energy, make them attack, kick at a very high volume and then defend like you hate them.

John Launer: The pluripotent consultation Every time I teach, I try to introduce an exercise I’ve never done before. I hope this ensures that people are less likely to be bored if they’ve already been to one of my workshops, but it also keeps...

Medical students and residents learn formulaic ways of conducting consultations. But in reality these can often develop in multiple directions, and be more like freeform jazz than line dancing. How do we teach this?
