For now, I believe the initial analysis suggests strain is similar to Neisseria meningitidis Group B previously circulating in UK but the outbreak strain has distinct genetic differences, including in the pilX gene, which could enhance its virulence.

Hi Kat, just as a PS, I came across the e-bug website which contains a wealth of free educational resources. It started as as EU thing & a colleague Donna Lecky was particularly involved in Public Health England times www.e-bug.eu/home It's kinda geared for 'educators' but parents are included!
In an ideal world it would be a ‘source’ paper rather than a quote of a quote paper (which is irritating eg when trying to find the exact methods & materials). I do take your point but sometimes that jerk might end up as reviewer 2…..
When we went there was a mediaeval fair in the grounds & a church cat asleep on a pew 🐱.
If you do return one day Surgeons' Hall Museums is well worth a visit - it's one of the weirdest I've been to. My other fav place a bit south of the city is this (of Dan Brown fame) www.rosslynchapel.com
You big tease!
I think George III, King Nebuchadnezzar II or Elizabeth I

Sounds a potential easy fix….Are the Executive Board/Vice Chancellor brigade aware?
Lewis Carroll’s poem ‘Twinkle twinkle little bat’
I thought that reminded me of something…..
Thanks for the info & link. Confess I hadn't heard of them but they certainly sound worth checking out 🎵👍
Ah love Tivoli. Up in the gods! Who’s playing Arnoud?

Well I’ve started Terry Prachett’s The Fifth Elephant but actually the #pertussis article in #thelancetmicrobe comparing wP & aP primary immunisation responses following maternal vaccination was really interesting, thanks.
Well I wouldn’t go that far…..
Sounds normal for a scientist. But wait do you mean your talk is tomorrow or you just have to make up a title by then as the abstract will just say ‘to follow…..’
Being from more than one place always sounds odd.
Image taken from Richard Scarry of Lowly Worm having an X-ray. Text says: Lowly has an X-ray taken. "Your insides look good, Lowly", says the X-ray taker.
Absolutely love Richard Scarry. When we lived in the States our son was brought up on this. The time when Lowly goes to the hospital for an X-ray & has a broken bone revealed has stayed with me. Can't find the image I'm after but this is close.
Ah I do miss being able to access articles thanks to my previous employers arrangements #paywall
This is sadly true (as a microbiologist) & the pathogenic ones are a pretty low % of the microbial world but I take solace in all the microbiomes playing their part to put things right and to sustain us 🍞🍷🍺🧀& the fact that they're pretty much everywhere #microbeseverywhere

Hey people! My son's science fair project is about how people visualize things when they read. It's very short and he'd appreciate it if you could fill it out, and share for more responses!
(info: 'print books' also includes ebooks)
Thank you! ☺️
