My Instagram accounts have been hacked. They were even deactivated for a short while, but they are back online, except I don't have access to them anymore. And apparently, I have to move on because there's nothing I can do about it. Anyway, I wanted to put that out for posterity.

I rewatched John Carter (2012) and, while I'll admit it has some glaring flaws, it is better than people give it credit for. It's entertaining, well-made, the cast is not half bad, and the visual effects are still solid. I was fun to rewatch. #filmsky

I watched Miracle: Letters to the President (2021) a cute little melodrama with a lot of feelings, touching characters, and inspirational moments. The kind of feel-good movie that makes you laugh and reach for a tissue. #filmsky

I'll probably change half of it if I had to redo it in 10 minutes, but I decided not to overthink it.
I watched I, Madman (1989), a schlocky, boring slasher that looks terrific. A mix of film noir and monster movie visuals with great sets lead to a captivating atmosphere. Still, the story failed to deliver, but at least it looks good. #filmsky

During the heatwave, what's better than rewatching Dante's Peak (1997), a well-made and quite entertaining blockbuster about a volcano destroying an American small town. #filmsky

The trailer for The Naked Gun should have been half as long; you don't need to include all your jokes in it.
For those who just want to read my reviews of Asian movies, I decided to launch a dedicated newsletter via Substack (free) just for them. I know I'm watching a bit of everything, and some just want to read about a certain type of cinema. #filmsky

I watch 11 Rebels (2024). It's a Japanese medieval Dirty Dozen meets Zulu. Great action movie, the story is a bit weak, and it could have been shorter, but really entertaining with good performances. #filmstack

It’s hard to escape the dawning realization that part of the goal of Google’s AI Overview is to simply eradicate the concept of anyone else having any kind of website at all.
Why click on a link & explore when Google told you the answer & you didn’t know it was wrong?
There are not a lot of maritime historical movies, The Admiral: Roaring Currents (2014) is a good one. Choi Min-sik is great as always, impressive as the legendary Korean Admiral, and that massive battle was thrilling. No surprise it was a hit. #filmsky

I revisited Zero Dark Thirty (2012). An expertly-made movie, but I must say that the story is so focused on being an unemotional narrative, it failed to provide me with a perspective worth re-examining. Still, I like that it shows it was just luck. #filmsky

I recently launched Cinematic Freeze, a companion blog to Cinematic Panic, in which I'm publishing Screengrabs of great-looking movies. Come take a look!!!

I watched Yokohama BJ Blues (1981), a moody néo-noir full of blues and crime. It's about a singer/detective investigating the murder of his best friend and going deep into Yokohama's underworld. Highly recommended for amateurs of the genre. #filmsky

Introduction: Believe me, there are few things more embarrassing than having to write the introduction to one's own book. Not for me the dubious pleasure of an endorsement from Stephen King or Clive Barker. Not for me the glowing praise of my peers as they lie through gritted teeth and wait for the check to arrive by Federal Express. Not for me the detailed analyses of technique, the backslapping bonhomie, the hushed reverential tones. Instead, I'm forced to take the stand and conduct my own defense. So what do I say? "Animal Man was a fundamental milestone in the ongoing development of graphic narrative and I consider myself lucky, nay, privileged, nay, blessed to have known Grant Morrison at this pivotal moment in his glittering career..." All too true, but comics readers value modesty and humility above all, so perhaps I'd do better to stick with world-weartn self deprecating cynicism. "Animal Man? No big deal. It paid the rent, I suppose." Hmm, I could have a point there, but it still doesn't tell the full story. Better just to stick to the "facts".
I recently started reading Animal Man, and the first paragraph of Grant Morrison's introduction made me laugh! Great start!
I watched the South Korean remake of Hidden Face (2024), an erotic thriller with a few surprises, a dull male lead, but a really fun performance by Cho Yeo-jeong, who basically brought the whole thing to life. It's a bit forgettable, though. #filmsky

I rewatched The Truman Show (1998) for the first time in years, and I realised how sick all those people watching him were. They knew he was kept captive during all this time and didn't care. #filmsky

I went back to Little Forest (2018) for the food and the friendship. It's a good movie to remind you that, whatever you do to avoid facing your problem, you still have to eat and cook a lot. And it can be relaxing to watch someone else do it. #filmsky

I finished watching the first season of MobLand. Great performances, but not a lot of story to support 10 episodes. It's not bad, it has some fun moments and a few intense ones too. It's just empty. #TVSky

I rewatched Desk Set (1957), a fun office comedy/romance about Spencer Tracy working to install a computer in Katharine Hepburn's office. A 1957 computer! Always a delight to revisit it. #filmsky

I rewatched my Blu-ray of Quick Change (1990), a great little-known Bill Murray (who co-directed it), who's trying to flee from NY with Geena Davis and Randy Quaid. It's a short, smart, really fun comedy elevated by the great Jason Robards. #filmsky

I watched Peppermint Candy (1999), a movie that works as an interesting way to look at the History of South Korea through the deconstruction of a despicable man who was not always like that, but I didn't really like watching it. #filmsky

I rewatched Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023), the story is ridiculous, I don't know why they went Sci-Fi with this one. I didn't like the way they treated Ilsa, but it's still entertaining and well-made. #filmsky

I watched Juzo Itami's Supermarket Woman (1996), a fun and fresh feel-good movie about making shopping great again, a nice fantasy about doing capitalism right. #filmsky
