I still get chills
Meet Mike
*30+ years severe depression
*first hospitalized @ 13y
*20 meds
*3 rounds of ECT
*2 near-fatal suicide attempts
Mike felt joy for the first time in decades after we turned on his new brain pacemaker or PACE

If you’re interested in joining on a symposium submission on early math interventions or on something related to geometry, let me know! I plan to organize a symposium on one of those.
Found this to be quite useful. Some stuff I didn't know.
Now that there are more folks here, see below on the off chance you are interested in celebrating Gordon Logan’s contributions to cognitive psychology

New episode! Paul Bloom joins the show to talk about whether much of developmental psychology is not worth doing, where he thinks psychology has succeeded, and whether we should be more skeptical of progressive-friendly social science findings.

Side profile highlighting the Insula
Following a week of big emotions, I declare a celebration of a part of your brain that's been on overdrive but you've barely heard of: the Insula!
Each day, I'll pass along a fascinating something about the Insula. In 7 days it just might be your new favorite brain region (it's mine).

New paper in HBM in which we report NO evidence for differences in brain activation (measured by fMRI) between children with and without Developmental Dyscalculia for basic number processing, visuospatial working memory and arithmetic tasks:https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/hbm.26495
Decreases in problem-size effect from age 8 to adulthood were associated with quantitative rather than qualitative changes in brain activity, at least for very small problems. This is very consistent with the automatized counting model: doi.org/10.1016/j.co... (4/4)
In a large (n=128) fMRI study in children and adults, we test this idea by measuring neural changes associated with age-related reductions in a hallmark of mental addition, the problem-size effect. We used a novel “silent” production task to keep the task ecological and minimize head movement. (3/4)
Cognitive development is often thought to depend on qualitative changes in problem-solving strategies, with early developing procedures being replaced by memory retrieval in adults. But procedures might also become automatized with practice.
