I have been tasked w/preparing a workshop on writing & submitting for #CogPsych #neuroscience PhD candidates, so I unearthed this book. My 2000 edition is outdated and even if recent editions seem ~better (e.g. exit the chapt by Bem recommending HARKing), I’d ❤️ ⭐️recommendations⭐️ for alternatives!

💡 Our review finds excessive screen use in preschoolers is linked to poorer sleep, which in turn may lead to behavioral & cognitive issues.
Would cutting screens before bed make life easier for kids (and parents)? What do you think? 🤔📱💤 #CogPsych #Sleep #Screens

I'm obsessed with my #internaldialogue rn. Probably bc it is getting louder the more anxious I get. I don't think it is MY voice, though.
Whose voice is it?
Can I change it?
Am I legit having some kind of psychological crisis?
Help, please?

Cartoon showing 10 people standing in a line, each with their hands on the shoulders of the person on front. At the back of the line one person is tapping the next person’s shoulder. At the front of the line, the last person is ready to tap a bell. Title text: What is the speed of thought Subtitle: A low-tech demonstration of reaction time & choice cost. 10 human reactors pass the signal to the bell. The goal: Pass the signal to the bell as fast as possible, by tapping when you feel a tap on your shoulder. Basic: The response chain knows which shoulder the tap will be on, and all tap using the same hand. Choice: The tap could be on either shoulder, and all responses must be with the opposite hand. The Result: It takes about *one second more time* for the chain to ring the bell in the choice condition. This demonstrates choosing a response hand takes each person about 1/10 of a second longer! Context: Donders first demonstrated Choice Cost in 1868, using flashing lights and response buttons Demo by Suzy J Styles (2025)
Start of term, time for demos! Here’s a #CogPsych one I tried on Friday - Donders’ Reaction Time + Choice Cost with 10 volunteers from our class of 200
We replicated Donders’ 150-year-old RT delay to the milisecond, with nothing more complex than a bell and a stopwatch 🙀
Friends, it was amazing!
